Re: Interesting sean payton quote
I knew we were in trouble in the beginning of the 2nd Qtr due to the Offensive play calling (abandoning the running game way to soon). Saints were facing a 2nd down and 3 in their own territory, as Karney was taken out for the series. Karney should have been on the field blocking for Reggie and establishing the line of scrimmage. With 1 running back in the backfield (usually Reggie) , defenses have adapted by stacking the box and/or blitzing Brees.
Two things I have learned over the last 9 games, Brees is very ineffective with pressure in his face, and Reggie does not know how to pick up the blitz. Since Duece got hurt, Reggie has yet to rush for 100 yds. in Coach Payton's "featured back set". Averaging just 3.8 yards per carry, Reggie was more effective as the complimentary RB to the bruising , pound it down your throat running back we no longer have. guess there's always next week as I hope Pierre Thomas gets more carries. In the 6 games PT has played, he has carried the ball 6 times for 40 yds ... 6.7 yds per carry. It's mind boggling that this kid got ZERO touches vs. SEA, JAC, and STL. |
