With Branch, Burleson, and Engram on board in Seattle, I can see Hackett possibly leaving for greener pastures. Other names that jump out at me are Berrian (though he's said he wants to stay in Chicago) and Patrick Crayton. I would not be surprised if Payton/Loomis made a strong play for Crayton.

i watched crayton on sunday...and don't get me wrong he HAS looked great...but he didn't look like he was trying at all. no passion, no WANT for the ball. did anyone else notice this? i was a huge proponent of his earlier...but i dunno now. thoughts?

Won't happen.
Even then I doubt it. If not he will walk.
That's what will happen. Some desparate team will show him the money. He'll be gone.
I look for one additional FA to sign with the along with Patten. None of the others have really stood out. They are all the same. A bunch of #4's trying to be a #3. Patten is a #3 trying to be a #2. So in steps Mech'em next year as a #2? Nah he will be a #4 to start the season. He needs to get on the field an play first.
We do the Saints need a FA at receiver? AFAIC only Henderson didn't pan out this year. Meachem was a non factor, so I'm holding judgement.
Look for the saints to address the #2 WR spot in the off season.
Can you clarify why Patton cannot be the #2 receiver?

With the plans that one year later Mech will be ready to take over the #2 and the FA to slide back to the #3. Patten to be our #4.
That feels like a harsh critique of our receiver corps. Receiver just doesn't seem to be a position of need with the Saints right now. It was already addressed this year by wast..., Uh I mean drafting, a WR #1 and bringing in Patton. Why do we need to bother to address this position again? Here's what I'd do:

1. Thank Henderson for his service and wish him well in his next gig. Personally I'd just man up and tell him he's not worth the big money and frankly he's obligated to test the FA market.

2. Resign Patton and install him as the #2 receiver.

3. Get Meachum ready to play.

In other words, I wouldn't spend a lick of time on the receiver position this offseason. Now if another gem like Colston is lingering around in the later rounds of the draft, then maybe I spend a pick. Maybe.

But free agents? Not unless they want to come play for the minimum. I just can't see justifying paying any more money for receivers right now.

That's my nickel (inflation ya know?) to the convo.

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.

Meacham..Meachem.......that guy who looked like he got a Tic Tac stuck in his epiglottis when the Saints called him on Draft Day?

Nice post SFIAH. I agree with you completely about letting Henderson go. I am sick and tired of his inconsistency. You can't win in the NFL today if you can't count on your wide receivers to catch a football. The Saints, IMO, have been more than patient enough with Henderson to develop into what he was expected to be, and he just hasn't reached that level. Time to cut our losses and move on.

That being said, I still think our WR corps is a little weak after Colston, and nobody on the FA market stands out to me. Moss is going to go somewhere for HUGE money, and I don't think Patrick Crayton's all that good. Patten (assuming he learns how to hold onto the ball) and Copper are GREAT third options (and Lance Moore is a very solid #4 guy), but we really seem to be missing that #2 option. In all honesty, I'm surprised that Meachem didn't even get a chance to play this season. It's not like any one of our receivers have been playing so lights out that Payton shouldn't want to let the rook start in front of them. The guy is obviously a very talented WR, and I'd like to see him get his shot to be the guy opposite Colston next year.
