2008 Saints mock draft

rounds 1-7 no anticipation of trades
Round 1:Kenny Phillips S 6’2 210 Miami
Imagine a mixture of Ed Reed and Sean Taylor in our secondary
Round 2:Terrell Thomas CB USC 6'1 200
Thomas is a corner that has very good size, and is not afraid to get physical with receivers. He doesn’t shy away from contact, and is active in run support. He is not just a big guy however. He shows the ability cover down the field, and has the awareness to pick up the ball in the air and make plays on it
Round 3:J Lehman LB 6’3 243 Illinois
Very few people play the game with the passion and intensity that Lehman does. He goes hard on every snap, and attacks until the play is over. He plays with fantastic instincts and can read the play and react before the play develops. His intelligence allows him to make plays all over the field.Lehman has the ideal attitude for a linebacker, and his combination of intensity and intelligence will allow him to play in the NFL.
Round 4:Martellus Bennett TE 6’7 250 Texas AM
Bennett is a nightmare matchup because of his combination of physical skills. His combination of size and athleticism is fantastic. He has excellent height and has the quickness to get open and the body control to use his body to go up and get the football. He could be a major threat in the red zone in the NFL.
Round 5: Mike Fladell, Rutgers OG Height: 6-8. Weight: 325.
Blocked for Ray Rice nuff Said
Round 6: Frank Morton, Tulane DTHeight: 6-3. Weight: 327.
Round 7: Davon Bess WR Hawaii

Undrafted Free Agent Signed
Jason Shirley, Fresno State
Height: 6-5. Weight: 330.
40 Time: 4.98.
A monstrous nose tackle who runs a sub-five 40

I could almost live with it. Nice job.
Draft
Round 1 James Laurinaitis, ILB, Ohio State Jr, 6-3, 244
Sorry I go ILB. If he is not there I would trade down

There are a couple of good FS in the draft as well as good CB that project out better as safeties. I am just not sold on the kid I guess. Sell me

I have a gut feeling that the Saint's are going to draft Keith River, LB, out of USC.

I think #10 overall is a little high for a safety. I like the OSU linebacker, or Ellis from USC, but not sure he will go that high.

The saints need to get an Inside Linebacker....the free agent market this year is very poor, and its something that needs to be addressed in the draft.

Re: 2008 Saints mock draft

I see quite of few Saints fans having Phillips as our number one choice on a lot of boards. As much as I like him, I'd also rather have a LB or CB with our first pick. It's been long overdue. Our safeties are young... hopefully they'll continue to learn and get better. A stopgap is already on our team in KK and we can address the other spot via free agency if need be.

I like picks 2, 4, 5, and 7. I really don't know much about Lehman or Morton. Will definately have a better feel for them as workouts start. I think Bennett goes in the 3rd and with good workouts, late 2nd. But if he falls to the 4th, it should be a no brainer pick.

If Laurenitis is gone then the only pick is Rey Maualuga, USC. Did anyone else see this guy in the Rose Bowl? Good God. I think he might be a little better than Laurenitis. He reminds me of a young Junior Seau.

He has stated that he will return to USC for his senior season.

Laurinaitis will be gone by the time we pick (unless we trade up), the draft is hard to figure out but if hes still available when the patriots select they will pick him. thats the only sure thing i see happening in the draft so far.
