Let us talk the top 10 Sr. CB in draft
 

I came across an odd ball listing of CB in a Chicago paper that covered some of the lesser known Cb in the draft. Brief but hits the mark. Think 3rd thru 5th on most of the guys listed here. I know Mike Jenkins is a first or second rounder but the rest are not.

Teams in need of cornerbacks are going to like the 2008 draft. There isn't a Deion Sanders available, but there are some fine prospects, as well as depth. If juniors such as Malcom Jenkins of Ohio State, Reggie Smith of Oklahoma and Aqib Talib of Kansas enter the draft, cornerback will be one of its strengths.

1. Mike Jenkins, South Florida. This is an explosive player with speed and quick feet. Has long arms and can play the ball. Is versatile enough to cover different kinds of receivers at different positions. Could improve his run support.

2. Leodis McKelvin, Troy. Lacks ideal size but is highly athletic and very quick. Has excellent coverage skills. Explosive player with a spring in his step. Is a bit raw. Also is a returner.

3. Terrence Wheatley, Colorado. Very quick cover corner with athleticism. Is an asset in run support. Has a bad wrist that could affect his draft stock. Isn't quite as big as you would like.

4. Charles Godfrey, Iowa. Has size and speed and plays aggressively. Tackles well. Can press a receiver. Probably isn't athletic enough to play man-to-man. Would be excellent in a Cover-2 scheme.

5. Patrick Lee, Auburn. Big, fast and tough. Is aware in coverage, and has the athleticism to play man-to-man. Will play physically. Could slip because of off-the-field concerns.

6. Tracy Porter, Indiana. Highly athletic cover corner who can mirror a receiver. Has top speed. Shows good ball skills. Shies away from contact and isn't much help in run support.

7. Terrell Thomas, USC. Big, athletic corner who fits Cover-2 teams. Is good at pressing and turning and running with receivers. Has some durability issues.

8. DeJuan Tribble, Boston College. Feisty, stocky little corner who is quicker than fast. Is explosive in and out of cuts. Plays aggressively. Lack of size is an issue. Would make a good nickel corner.

9. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State. Tall, athletic corner with cover skills and speed. Is unrefined and could take awhile to develop. Is not a very physical player.

10. Trae Williams, South Florida. Doesn't have great size or speed, but he makes plays with athleticism and instincts. Is a little like the Patriots' Asante Samuel.

i wouldnt be surprised to see mike jenkins fall to us in the 2nd. it might be a stretch but if the juniors come out we might be able to catch a break and get him.

The junior corners are more talented. Jenkins will be a good one though.

Good post Hagan. I'll admit I don't know squat about the college players coming into the draft - just what I read online. But let me ask you guys this - do you think we can take a corner in the second or third, instead of the first? Is the talent level really that close between them?

A lot depends on the Jr. coming out. Sr class is a bit shaky. There is a couple of players that are projects and a lot that have the skills but lack the height to be elite CB. I see most of the big CB better off at FS than CB.

I dont see Mike Jenkins falling to the second, but with the combine still left a bunch of things can change.

i think McKelvin could be a steal in the second round, if he is there. i think he might fly up draft boards. and give Usama Young some time. he was good on special teams and cbs don't exactly adjust swiftly to the next level, no matter what level they played at in college.

Eveything I've read people hope he falls to the second round

Young wasn't drafted to play "right away". Don't knock small school guys Missile, especially in later rounds.
