FA information.........
Sources: Redskins to pursue Bears Briggs
Several league sources believe the Redskins will heavily pursue Chicago freeagent linebacker Lance Briggs, whom Washington attempted to land in a trade last offseason. The Redskins have long pursued a stable third wide receiver as well, and potential free agents such as Drew Carter and Bernard Berrian are possible targets. -- Washington Post Titans expected to tag Haynesworth Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on March 2. The Titans are expected to put a franchise tag on him, which will keep him off the market but assure him of a one-year salary equal to the average of the five highest-paid players at his position. "I'm not really worried about it," Haynesworth said. "As long as I get to keep playing the game I'll be OK. I've been here since '99 starting with the Vols and drafted by the Titans and I'd love to retire as a Titan. Hopefully all the salary cap stuff, hopefully we can get that done." -- Tennessean Steelers undecided on Faneca Steelers director of football operations Kevin Colbert said no decision has been made regarding what to do about guard Alan Faneca's status as an unrestricted free agent. "No, nothing," Colbert said after the Jacksonville Jaguars eliminated the Steelers, 31-29, on Saturday night at Heinz Field. "We've just been working on the draft; none of that other stuff." -- Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Raiders will tag Asomugha Once Nnamdi Asomugha opts out of his contract - a formality at this point - he'll become an unrestricted free agent. He would demand the biggest cornerback contract this side of Asante Samuel. That's not going to happen. The Raiders will use the franchise-player tag on Asomugha, paying him an estimated $9.2 million for one year of service. They'd like to secure him with a long-term contract, but that ship appears to have sailed. -- SF Chronicle Packers haven't begun Williams contract talks The Green Bay Packers haven't engaged in any contract talks with their most important unrestricted free agent, defensive tackle Corey Williams. Williams, the former sixth-round draft pick, is looking for his first significant NFL pay day and the longer he goes without hearing anything from the Packers, the more he's starting to wonder if he'll be playing for another team next season. The Packers didn't talk to Williams' new agent, Blake Baratz, during the season, when teams can prorate a portion of a signing bonus on the current year's salary cap. That's no longer an option, so there's little incentive for the Packers to negotiate now. If they're interested in bringing back Williams, they'll likely make a push to do so before the March free-agency period. -- Green Bay Press-Gazette Eagles TE Smith to cash in? The Eagles don't have much of a history bowing to the contract demands of players who try to hold them up, but if the Colts secure Dallas Clark as they are expected to, L.J. Smith might be the best tight end option available in the free agent market. -- Camden Courier-Post Titans TE Troupe to leave as free agent? Sunday's game may have been Tight end Ben Troupe's last with the Titans. He's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent."I had some fun times here in Tennessee," he said. "Obviously it's a team on the rise. We'll see what the offseason has to offer." Other key free agents to be: defensive ends Antwan Odom and Travis LaBoy, guard Jacob Bell and receiver Justin Gage. -- Tennessean FOX Sports on MSN - Rumors - Ben Maller's NFL rumors |

Re: FA information.........
Call me crazy, but Faneca and Williams are #1 and 2 on my wish list.
I think Faneca instantly makes our OL one of the best in the league and would be a great role model for Alleman. He's right around 30 and is a NOLA native, so you can sign him to a 4 year deal and give Alleman the time to develop. The rest of the line is young-ish outside of Nesbit, who Faneca would replace. Plus he would help with the run game. I mean, offense is this teams specialty, so why not hang you hat on it. Williams has been an absolute stud this year with (I think) 7 sacks. If he could be the command-the-double-team DT that we're lacking with HT and Clancy as the run plugs, I think that helps the rest of the D a ton. Those two signings free us up a ton in the draft. We can then look for a second-tier CB in Free Agency and draft LB or DB without having to worry about reaching for a specific position player. |

Re: FA information.........
i have a bad feeling that there wont be much available on the defensive side of the ball once players are tagged. Aside from briggs and sameul and i dont like the idea of overpaying for either of them.

Re: FA information.........
I agree that most of these guys will get tagged, but let's face it, all the free agents now a days are overpaid. At least they are proven and very good...We over paid for Grant on a contact extension last year. That seems to be the trend, overpaying has really taken over. I'd rather over pay and get production, rather than over paying and get nothing i.e. Jason David
