Saints Inside Slant
FOX Sports on MSN - NFL - New Orleans Saints Inside Slant
"I think we can help ourselves. I think the approach that we'll take has been the same approach -- when the draft comes, you're always looking to try to take the best player on the board," Payton said. "In free agency, you're trying to identify some needs that you feel like you need to fill to immediately help your team." |

Hopefully, Payton is smoke screening. This draft needs to be all about the defense, period. Get the 2008 defense in better shape with youngsters, and they should go deep into the playoffs. By 2009 the Saints could find themselves as an elite team.

Find a Wide Reciever to complement Colston (after you lock him into a 20 year guaranteed contract, lol). Speaking of which, is Donte on a 1 year deal with the Pats? After that, free agency, the draft, midnight sweats, occasional dreams, conversations with the wife and kids, should all focus on defense (with an occasional possible tight end and line help thrown in for variation). Conversations should go like this:
Mrs. Payton: Sean, we're out of milk and I need you to pick up the kids after school today. Sean Payton: Can milk blitz?!!!!! When's the last time you saw the kids go sideline to sideline?!!!! Any of those jerks 6 foot plus and run a 4.3? Outjump Moss? To heck with the kids and milk, if they have the competetive spirit they'll come to us!!! Mrs. Payton: Ummm....Sean....? |

It didn't get better, it got worse. |
