ELLO GUVNOR! It's (Un-officially) Official
Report: Chargers, Saints to meet in London on Oct. 26
ESPN.com news services Updated: January 27, 2008, 3:09 PM ET It looks like the San Diego Chargers and the New Orleans Saints will be the next group of NFL teams to take their show overseas. According to The San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers will play the Saints in London on Oct. 26. The game will most likely take place at Wembley Stadium, which is where the New York Giants beat the Miami Dolphins last October. Chargers President Dean Spanos would not confirm San Diego's involvement to the newspaper but said, "We want to go. I'm cautiously optimistic." Commissioner Roger Goodell is expected to make the announcement official at his Super Bowl media conference on Friday, according to the Union-Tribune. This will be just the league's second regular-season game played outside North America. The meeting between New York and Miami this past October was the first. |

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
Word, Venturi. That's the least they should do. I know they're trying to capitalize on Katrina. That's what this is about. New Orleans became a sympathy favorite (worldwide) when Katrina was going on. When I was in England, people would hear my accent, then ask me about the US. When I said I was from New Orleans, they were all interest at that point. (I went to England a month after Katrina hit).
So I think I can say I know what this is about - it's the NFL trying to capitalize on it. They'll be playing "Saints This", and "Saints That" on the loudspeakers (since we're the "home" team). It's all about business angle, play on sympathy and interest, use it to hook in more fans across the pond - I understand that. But what I can't tolerate is that we lose (yet another) of our precious home games for them to maximize their profit. You SUCK, NFL. |
can anyone help me id this tune? it goes thwap thwap boom tch boom tch boom tch.

Re: The Saints are the HOME team in the UK game
I say no to playing games overseas no reason for it....... Europe is all about soccer and not football. Why should any team especiallly a team like ours give up home games to play across the pond. No way I say.......and cut the crap Goodal we need our teams to play at home. It is our National Sport so why we trying to sell ice cubes to eskimos.

The Saints do seem to play better in away games than home games.

Positive. Here's why. Season tickets go down by 10%. Game will be on national TV. Europe may fall in love with the Saints and be Euro's team.
