Re: Glenn Dorsey

DT should be a main foucus of this team! We got no pressure on the QB! We need PRESSURE, PRESSURE, PRESSURE. The front 7 is what we all should care about. EXAMPLE: GIANTS did to the Pats.

Now I don't think we should trade up at all, I am all for trading back to grap more pics (more oppitunites to find gems). BUT!!! if Dorsey falls to 5 i'd start making calls and see what the price will be. Create some double teams on our line and it'll help create pressure. Not only that, you wanna put more butts in seats - draft Dorsey.

You can bet your bottom dollar that the Patriots are desperately going to be shopping that 7th spot. If they are looking to trade back and Dorsey or Ellis is there, it's going to be tough to pass up, but who knows at this point.

The market isn't exactly overflowing with free agent DTs with much talent, though, and this draft isn't loaded with d-line talent. I still say if we can jump over Cincy to Baltimore at the 8 spot for the cost of a fourth (which is right according to the trading chart) and get Ellis, then we should go for it. He's going to be too good to let slip by.

LB's pressure the quarterback too. So do safeties. So do CB's....

There's no argument we need more pressure. But I think the play of our LB and secondary squads has been worse than the play of our D Line. And that itself can be one of the prime reasons we get so little pressure.

The Giants certainly put excellent pressure on Tom Brady. But it wasn't just the D Line causing it...

You get to the QB with your front 7 it will by default take pressure off the secondary. If a QB has less than 3 seconds with the ball he doesn't have time to throw it. I think if you go back and look at the Super Bowl you'll find more times than not it was the front 7 that got the pressure and sacks more than the DB's. Front 7 does mean LB's from all my experiance with the game.

I like Dorsey because he is going to cause some mis matches and demand some double teams which will free up another player to get to the QB.

You're right, you did say front 7 (not front 4). My bad. But the focus of this article is about Dorsey, and people are saying trade up to get him. So I was just pointing out that it's not just the front 4 that's responsible for pressure. I feel that sometimes people forget that, i.e focus solely on tackles, and forget about LB's.

Really, our front 4 isn't that bad. Certainly not good, but now awful. Our LB's, on the other hand, are just downright awful for the most part (IMO). Worse than the tackles, and hence more of a priority.

Here is the thing about the draft and this draft in particular. First of all, no one wants to move into the top 10...most teams want out. It is not a top heavy draft but it is one of those drafts where the you can get great deals on guys in rounds 2-5.

As for our needs, in order of importance, we need CB, LB, DT. There isnt a rookie in this class that could come in and be very good from day 1 at CB, but you can find that with a LB or DT. If the Saints can sign Florence, then i would have no problem with them moving up a few spots to get Dorsey or Ellis while giving up a 3rd or a 4th. I would give up a conditional pick in next years draft to the Jets for Vilma. Based on how much he plays, it could be as high as a 2nd or as low as a 5th. Then the Saints could come out of the draft with defensive additions like this:

DT-Dorsey or Ellis (1st rd)
LB Vilma (trade for next years pick)

CB Florence (FA)
CB (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie or whichever other CB falls till the early 2nd round)

Thats 4 young, athletic, playmakers to bring a jolt to our defense. That would leave us 4 picks on day 2 to address needs at safety, tight end, WR, and QB.

You are right our front 4 isn't that bad but they aren't that good either. You need to get some pass rushers, bulldozers, instead of tubs of lard who sit there and wait for the runner to come near them to make a tackle. RUSH RUSH RUSH. Build a dominating front 7 and you'll be in more games than not. It all start up front creating mismatches and double teams.
