Buccaneers | More on Faine's contract
Tue, 4 Mar 2008 10:53:17 -0800 Scott Reynolds, of PewterReport.com, reports the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed free-agent C Jeff Faine (Saints) to a six-year deal worth $37.5 million Friday, Feb. 29. Faine's deal also includes a $12 million signing bonus and a roster bonus of $1 million in 2009. The deal is voidable after 2009 if certain triggers are achieved. Faine will play for a base salary of $1 million in 2008 and will have a cap value of $3 million. His cap value will rise to $4 million in 2009, due to the $1 million roster bonus that year. KFFL - Hot off the Wire - NFL Breaking News, Notes and Fantasy Football Information Wow...a $12 million signing bonus! and voidable after 2009 if certain triggers are achieved. Sweet deal for Jeff. Bucs are NUTS. |

Re: Faine Nuts
Whatever happened to the good old days? Gawd!
What ever happened to: "I'm living the dream, playing for a legitimate contender in the NFL! A fair price for my talent is all I need because frankly, I love this game and I make enough to give a comfortable life to myself and my family!" Will greed EVER take a back seat to love of the game ever again? |

Re: Faine Nuts
Something seems to be missing. Either Goodwin needs to fire his mother as his agent or the Bucs have a serious problem judging talent. Goodwin 3 years for 8.5 mill, Faine 6 years 37 mill. Unless Goodwin hates moving or his kids really like the school they are in should we assume there is no drop-off in talent or that we got the better of the 2 for 1/2 the money. As long as he can snap the ball to Drew without alot of fumbles we can spend that money on other areas of the team.
My other concern is would you rather sign your own FAs from the 4th ranked offense or from the 25+ ranked defense. If when it is all finished do you think we will have signed more of our defensive FA or offensive FA? |

Re: Faine Nuts
Goodwin did play way better. I think Reggie and Deuce are going to benefit more by having Goodwin on the field for sweeps/pitches especially... Goodwin would pull and actually hit a defender. Faine should have been a RB cause he would run right by a tiny CB instead of laying him out.

Re: Faine Nuts
I like Jeff Faine...the way we got him on draft day 2 years ago worked out perfectly...but he is going to get more money than he deserves and the Saints arent going to pay it. Good luck to him wherever he lands but there is no way he will be back here.

Re: Faine Nuts
I'm kind of glad they're letting him walk, not because I think he's a bad player or a guy we don't need, but simply because his asking price is more than his importance to the team. Goodwin didn't miss a beat when Faine was out and there's plenty of young talent on the line. Maybe we take a late round flyer on a center or look around in free agency for a backup.
