Sammy Knight

I am trying to get a second opinion on this. I loved Sammy Knight when he was a Saint. When I think of him, I think of a headhunter. If I remember correctly he was a great safety. I watched a little bit of him in Jacksonville last year and he looked pretty good. My question is does anyone think we should have looked at him to come into our rotation and mentor our young safeties? He signed a contract with the Giants today 3 yr 5million. Seems cheap to me. Any insight would be great.

Re: Sammy Knight

yeah I wanted him as a starter, but he could mentor Bullocks and Harper, retire a Saint and then maybe coach. I just thought with the price the Giants got him for we should have jumped all over him. I think he would have made our secondary instantly better.

Should we have re-signed him? We should never have let him go in the first place. Sammy kicked ass. When you needed that clutch interception in the last two minutes to save the game, Sammy was there to pluck it from the air.

They decided that, even though he could break up passes, make interceptions, and was a good tackler, they wanted a safety with SPEED. So we dropped him and replaced him with the mighty Tebucky Jones. And just so you know, Tebucky Jones was a GREAT tackler, it's just that everyone he tried to tackle was smeared with butter. It was a horrible violation of the rules, but the Refs never called it. This is 100% true BTW, I got the story from Tebucky's grandma herself.

Yeah, it would have been good to have Sammy back. His loss is just another part of the legacy of Jim Hasbeen.

Even though I don't know much about Sammy Knight, from the way you talk about im, he seems like a great accusition if we could get him.

Re: Sammy Knight

You know over the years I have thought that I was the biggest Saints fan in the world and noone else felt my pain of being a fanatic for a team destined for underachieving. I spent 14 months in Iraq, 12 months in Korea- all that time still following the Saints. I wish that during that time I would have known about the black and gold website. You guys are truly Saints fans(unlike the fairweather bandwagoneers that I know)and it's truly refreshing to be able to discuss the one team that we all feel so passionatley about. Thank you for the responses and I have a feeling this is our year(I have been saying that since the days of Bobby Hebert and Steve Walsh). Keepin the faith in New Iberia, La.

Re: Sammy Knight

I know they are trying to improve the secondary but if we would have brought in a veteran(cost effective) safety it would have made a huge difference.
