Draft Dish: Fight is on for No. 1 CB spot
3/13/2008 Tennessee State's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has been the star cornerback in postseason, shining first at the Senior Bowl and then turning in an amazing Combine workout. Overlooked, however, has been South Florida cornerback Mike Jenkins. That shouldn't be a problem going forward after he turned in a great workout at South Florida's Pro Day last week. Jenkins is back in the discussion about being the first cornerback selected, along with Rodgers-Cromartie and Troy's Leodis McKelvin. Jenkins ran the 40-yard dash in the low 4.4-second range, according to various scouts in attendance, and was outstanding in all the cornerback drills. He showed outstanding quickness, fluid hip movements and an explosive burst out of cuts when changing directions. Jenkins was not the only elite cornerback to help himself with an on-campus workout for scouts. Kansas' Aqib Talib hit a home run at Kansas' Pro Day on Tuesday. Talib (6-0 7/8, 193 pounds) ran well for a big corner -- 40-yard dashes in 4.40 and 4.45 seconds (on AstroTurf, so that equates to basically a 4.48 and 4.53 adjusted times). The rest of his workout also was excellent. With dozens of NFL scouts and coaches and personnel directors in attendance, Talib proved he also deserves consideration at the top of the cornerback list. Talib "wowed" everyone with tremendous quickness, agility and explosiveness when changing directions. He showed great footwork and hip movements, staying low while transitioning out of backpedal and exploding toward the ball. He also showed good hands catching the ball. One scout in attendance told me it was, "One of the best cornerback workouts I have seen in years." |

Re: NFL NETWORK Path To The Draft
Is there anyway that one of the top 5 corners will be available at pick number 42...or no shot at all?
