DTs are kind of like forwards in basketball...the 3 and 4 are both forwards, but the 3 is considered a "small" forward and the 4 is usually called a "power" forward. heck, some coaches even call them wings! on the roster it will say forward, but it is a term used. i have often seen 1 DT on a starting line up designated as a NT (usually a big, fat, ugly guy like hollis thomas or gilbert brown). no, it is not the "official" term used on most team rosters, but it is commonly used lingo.

just like a "mike" LB or a "nickel" corner...you won't find these terms on a team roster, but they are commonly used terms

There is no basketball in football. a CB is a CB is a CB, you are making my point I appreciate it. A CB is a CB he lines up whereever but he's a CB none the less.

You mean to tell me that if MM goes stands besides Grant and blits he's all of a sudden MM is the DE... NO! He is a CB.

This is a prime example of one digging one self in a hole and not knowing when to bow out. Some people have trouble admitting they're wrong and no matter how much sense you make, they still won't get it.

If no one wants to get back on topic, ignore and move on before this thread is trashed. Obviously I wasn't clear enough the first time I said it.

The nose tackle is a defensive alignment position for a defensive lineman in American and Canadian football. The nose tackle aligns across the line of scrimmage from the offense's center before the play begins.

4-3
In a traditional 4-3 defensive set, known as a two-gap defensive set, the nose tackle (NT) is one of two defensive tackles, usually on the weak side of the offensive line. His job is to take up the center and weak-side or pulling guard so that the smaller 'rush' end has a 1-on-1 matchup with the offense's blindside tackle. The second defensive tackle sometimes referred to as an 'under tackle', takes up the strongside guard and the strongside end takes up the strongside offensive tackle. A 1-gap scheme relies on an athletic defensive line rather than a large one and does not include a nose tackle. More modern, cover 2 schemes include either four smaller, athletic linemen, like Tony Dungy's scheme, developed in Tampa Bay; or two small, athletic ends and two nose tackles, like the scheme used by the Baltimore Ravens during their 2000 championship season.

I'm sure this clarifies everything.

Thanks papz I had the DT and the NT switched around.
