First post here, although I have been reading for several months:

"Melinda Deslatte / Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana is short of what it owes the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Hornets by more than $6 million this year under the state's contractual obligations to the pro sports teams. And the shortfall is expected to more than triple next year."

This is exactly the kind of bad press that Louisiana doesn't need. If you make a deal, keep it!
Further more, we will never get consideration for another SuperBowl until a long term deal is reached. Also, media talk like this doesn't help our case for New Orleans remaining an NFL city. New Orleans, ironically, got a break because of Katrina in regards to keeping the Saints. Don't think for a second that if we slip a little either in late incentive payments or ticket sales the whole Los Angeles rumor won't come up again.
Just pay them, get a long term deal done, and let's NEVER discuss this again.
