Saints Trading Down? Projected Picks
Hey, any knucklehead can speculate Round 1...
But, thought to propose some names for discussion for the Rounds that make the difference in a franchise... Round 01 Leodis McKelvin, CB (No injury news on Mike McKenzie; had to mention a luxury pick - Branden Albert, G, a friend in Scouting said common consensus is to think Hutchinson, Faneca) Round 02 Chris Johnson, RB, (Excellent Complement Speed/Size to R. Bush; by the way, my sense of humor can't miss the Johnson/Bush Complement Irony that some stupid announcer(s) or going to mention at the draft and next fall without Bad Announcing not pouncing all over it) Round 03 Dre Moore, DT (This guy hasn't played long and could be a freak in a 4-3 if he makes it this far, then it's Frank Okam, DT and his amazing size) Round 05 Tom Zbikowski, S (Saints haven't added a player to the All Name Saints players for some time (i.e. Abramowicz, Guido Merknis) and I hear he's first cousin to one of Ditka's Grabowski's; really, he's a solid player and a real hitter at the Safety spot) Round 06 Breno Giacomini, T (Hey the Saints just need some names, Cher'; actually this big fella is intriguing because of his agility and motor when you consider his size; and drafting at this round he could use a year to add bulk/learn the game unlike a No. 1 who should make immediate impact, hint2) Round 07 Carl Stewart, FB (Hey I love Karney, even with the small hands, you know...circus folk; but he's going to be moving on as all great Saints FB seem to do so here's your replacement)... Seriously, Really think the Saints are going to move out of the No.10 pick (and yes, Shockey may be involved); two reasons... First, don't think the value at No. 10 is there the Saints covet and they would like to pick up more picks... Second...money that a No. 10 pick would command does limit resigning funds for Colston, Smith, Evans et al... Really beginning to see Shockey and a swap of No. 1's and the Saints gaining a mid rounder as a real possiblity... |
It's not that my way is the right way, I just make the right way my way...

Re: Saints Trading Down? Projected Picks
Dude, I think the whole Saint nation would freakout if the Saints picked those guys. It would take a lot of wishing for Dre Moore to drop to the 3rd round. Your picks reminds me of last years draft.

Re: Saints Trading Down? Projected Picks
Even if we are talking about taking Rivers or McKelvin at ten, neither is worth the money for the pick, talent wise, IMO. I say trade down but and this is a big but, I do not see many reasons for anybody wanting to trade up. None of the the players at ten match up talent wise with previous drafts. So pray some one drops that we do not need. Then there is hope.
Right now I am wondering if Denver would make a move up for Rivers? cost? Picks 108@78 and 132@40. That would put us in front of all the teams looking for OL help just in front of Carolina. Also at that spot you should have the #2 RB, #2 DE, #3 CB, and #1 WR on the board also. Ideal spot to trade down one more time or just take a pick from that group. |

Re: Saints Trading Down? Projected Picks
Sorry guys, but the financial side of my brain is kicking in. With Smith, Evans, Colston due new contracts either this year or definitely next year...I see Benson pulling for trading down from what a #10 pick will cost.
I see the Saints trying to trade down and picking up additional picks in the 2nd through the 4th where FINANCIAL VALUE can be attained in the picks. |

Re: Saints Trading Down? Projected Picks
Finances are the primary reasons why the Saints would trade down...
Keep this in mind regarding Colston; he's in the magical third year for WR development; he's going to be a force and a big bill to boot... So the Saints are going to need to maintain their Cap Discipline... Another consideration...the Saints haven't redone Will Smith's contract just yet...I think they could be waiting to see what becomes available in the draft then sign Will Smith... |

Re: Saints Trading Down? Projected Picks
Amobi Okoye was the 10th pick last year.. he signed a six-year, $15.4 million contract. The deal includes $12.785 million in guarantees. Another $2.3 million is available through incentives. 2008: $370,000, 2009: $630,000, 2010: $765,000, 2011: $850,000, 2012: $665,000 (Voidable Year)
the 9th pick Ted Ginn Jr. signed a five-year, $19.6 million contract. The deal includes $14 million in guarantees. 2008: $370,000, 2009: $677,917, 2010: $1,035,833, 2011: $1,393,750, 2012: $1,801,667 its really not bad considering the top guys get 25 - 30 million upfront |

Speaking of irony with names like the Johnson/Bush tandem, how about this one from the Arkansas Razorbacks? And think if Randall Gay were on that team as well.
