Raiders have "serious" conversations with team interested in trade



ALAMEDA, Calif. -- Teams picking near the top of the NFL Draft normally have plenty of needs.
Even after a busy offseason of acquisitions that brought in former Pro Bowlers DeAngelo Hall and Javon Walker, the Oakland Raiders are no different.

That's why Raiders coach Lane Kiffin said the team is giving consideration to moving down from the No. 4 spot in the first round to make up for the fact that Oakland's second of five picks doesn't come until the fourth round with the 104th overall selection.


"More than ever, not in Raider fashion, we may trade back," Kiffin said Thursday. "It hasn't happened before but it is something we're seriously looking at. And that stems from the lack of picks and not having a fifth, a third or a second. It's something we're really looking at and having conversations about."


Kiffin said the Raiders have talked to a number of teams interested in the fourth pick, with some of those conversations characterized as "serious."
The fourth pick could have significant value because it's probable that highly regarded running back Darren McFadden will be available and there's also a good chance that top quarterback Matt Ryan will be there for the taking.

i know this has been rumored but what if Dorsey goes at 2 and Atl. goes QB. Would you mind a trade up for LONG?

i dont know if we would trade up for him but everyone knows what he will bring everyday..he plays just like his dad

Chris Long??? He seems like he is going to be a great player and i like him, but what would the Saints want with him? And why would we give up picks to move up to get him? he certainly doesnt fill a need...in fact, he plays the position where we may have the most depth...so why would we give up picks to move up to get him?

All right, come on. It would be a major shock to me if the Raiders moved down. Since Kiffin is doing the talking I doubt it even more. Never believe the Raiders on anything that is said. My feeling is they are going to stay at number 4 and draft their player. Kiffin may be saying these things about moving down, but it's Al Davis who will make the call. There is no way in hell Al Davis is going to move down. If he does, I would be shocked. Al Davis is going to take McFadden.

Sounds to me that almost everyone is trade bait this year and like the saints I want to look under every stone first.

There was talk on the NFL Network that there is a faction of people within the Rams organization that are in love with Long, and that the Falcons have already sold themselves on selecting Ryan with the 3rd, because they did not believe Dorsey would be there when they selected.
My personal opinion, Dorsey falling to the 4th pick is a pipe dream. The Rams would be stupid to take Long over Dorsey, and should he fall to the Falcons, they would revise their draft strategy quickly and make the right selection. I, like most here, do not want to see him in black and red for the next 10 years.

I don't see any down side to Chris Long, provided Grant can move inside and play DT.

I'd still prefer Dorsey or Ellis.

I think we could still see a trade with the Rams & then see the Rams trade up with Oakland.

If the Saints offered J Brown and #10 for #2 pick, question is if Haslett's saying don't make the trade, as a Rams official you've got to be thinking "if he doesn't want the player he picked while in New Orleans, what advice is he giving us now?!?"
