5th Round - Best Player Available?
According to New Era Scouting, the Saints drafted two players in round 5 that should have went in round 3.
New Era Scouting » Value Boards They have DeMario Pressley as the 11th best DT. New Era Scouting They have Carl Nicks as the 11th best OT. New Era Scouting I don't see how either of these two player make the roster. Looks like these two are practice squad players. They maybe able to play in a year or two. I must say that I'm impressed how the Saints haven't drafted any skill players and really have decided to bolster the defense. I really didn't think Peyton could control himself. My cats/hats off to him. |

Re: 5th Round - Best Player Available?
I like the Carl Nicks pick. But I don't like the Pressley pick. We had to give up an additional pick to get Pressley, but he can't play the nose. Ahtyba Rubin can, and would've been a better pick at DT, given our team needs and situation.

Just a 7th rounder. I like both picks. Nicks adds depth to the offensive line and could be coached into a solid starter. Pressley injects some youth and athleticism into an aging and not very active defensive tackle group. I personally think he will be a solid sub for Ellis when he needs a blow.

Re: 5th Round - Best Player Available?
Pressley is a good pick in so far as in a 4-3 you don't need a Nose Tackle except for Goal Line D and even then you've got Ellis; remember short, stout DT are suppose to get under and push big OL and occupy single gaps, 3-4 is where you need those big guys...
