Saints Trade DT Martin Chase to Skins!!!
FW if we had waited till the last preseason game no deal whould of happened. Teams know the final cut is comming right after the last preseason game, why give up anything for someone who is going to be cut in a couple days. It shows how hard up for tackles the Skins are that we got anything at all out of them. The point you raise about an injury is valid ,that\'s a risk in football. The deal is not a great manuver that will have a significant impact on next years squad, but give the front office some credit, they got something for a player that was probably going to be cut.

Saints Trade DT Martin Chase to Skins!!!
In April 2001, Chase signed a 1 year deal worth $512K, then he restructured to save cap space 5 months later. He signed a 2 year extention in 2001 in December, so he should be signed through December of this year at least. Really, he would be a free agent after the season but his tender would be minimal. I don\'t know what the terms of the extension were, but not much of a raise if anything.
Since we around $5M under the cap now and so are the Skins, I don\'t see any financial benefit to this deal. My problem with the trade is that the Skins are a$$ up in the demand side and we have the supply. They wanted Washington and the Pats got him. They won\'t likely get Dalton and they underpaid to get Chase. We have a commodity they needed. We were definitely in the drivers seat of this deal. Even that he was a free agent after the season, I would have thought that their desperation would be enough to raise the value. Maybe even a conditional position swap at our option in an mid round would have added some potential to this. |

I don\'t think we would have had a hard time making the trade after the last preseason game. If a player is cut they go on the FA market to sign where they want. It would have still been in Washingtons interest to make the trade and guarantee they get chase and at his current pay.
The saints traded for keaton last year before final cuts and they gave a player and a 4th rounder for that sorry player. Saints get too desperate this time of year. |

I definatly agree the Keaton trade was a horrible deal. We paid more than we had to for a player who has not worked out at all.

Saints Trade DT Martin Chase to Skins!!!
I heard last night on \"inside the saints\" that the saints are trying to package a deal to get a back-up running back and that 7th pick will be part of the deal.
Just seculation, but it makes sense. A player and a couple late picks for a stud back-up? |
