Back in the old days, the little LB played WLB (not MLB). Consider Quarrels from TB when he played the LLB (WLB) spot. He's not the biggest linebacker. Vilma would be fine, especially if Grant is on the same side.

Spikes would be great in a system that uses the MLB as a grinder.

NFL coaches are just too much in love with the Urlacher style MLB - a fast guy who can be productive all over the field. I'm not opposed to this system, but I think if we're going to have play-makers on the interior of our DL, we should consider a move to having our productive LBs be on the outsides.

I'm guessing, in line with SF1976, that we're done bringing in vetran free agents until at least the first mini-camp is done.

Still, I can't help but think that Spikes and Newberry would be excellent additions. However, the coaches may have already settled on their "systems" for this year, and, as such, are not interested in players that don't fit the system - I think that is a mistake, but it happens all the time.

This is the time of the year when teams go through 2 mini camps and get ready to make their June 1st cuts. Probably after June 1st is when you will see players go through another signing period because some veterans could possibly be released.

Kyle Brady is a fine blocker from the TE position He might be worth bringing in as a Blocking TE like a third OT.
