Who Dat News: Smith Wants to Retire as a Saint
News: In a recent interview, Will Smith told reporters that contract talks with the Saints are ongoing, according to uticaod.com. Smith indicated that he would like to remain a Saint, but only if the contract is right: “I’d like to stay with the same team my whole career… I love New Orleans. I love the people there … But then again, it’s a business.” Who Dat Say: If we can spend $63 million on Charles Grant, why can’t we do the same for Will Smith, who was selected as a team captain last year? I expect the Saints to do whatever it takes to keep our pass-rushing defensive end in New Orleans, especially considering the organization’s apparent desire to mimic the Giants’ success last year in establishing a dominant front four. Grant still has 6 years remaining on the monster contract he signed last year, and Sedrick Ellis will probably get a 5-year rookie contract. If we can lock up Smith for another five to seven years, that means these three potential stars on the defensive line will be terrorizing Matt Ryan for the next five years. |

After the recent Grant situation, I think we have no choice but to pay him!

Franchies 'em till a better DE comes along in the draft; not a shut down DE...
Most sacks come in multiple games; disappears from game to game... |

Huh? With an improved interior line this year, perhaps he will perform well enough for you to offer him a spot on the team. Whatever. |

Unhappy Smith a no-show at workouts
Unhappy Smith a no-show at workouts- NOLA.com
"He and I had a chance to visit about a month and a half ago, and you'd like to have all your players here. But it's not unusual," Saints Coach Sean Payton said. "I think you just go around the league, and each team has a player or two maybe that's unhappy with his contract. And so in the meantime our focus is on the players that are here. And we're full speed ahead." |

Re: Unhappy Smith a no-show at workouts
if smith is unhappy maybe we should get his contract worked out....if we dont and he goes somewhere else...so be it....im not gonna lose ne sleep over it...smith is a stud but if he doesnt wanna be a saint then i dont want him here ne way....everybody says they wanna retire where they play but few actually do.....i think he just wants to win over fans and media....dont get me wrong....smith is a pro-bowl guy and a classy guy...but if he decides to pull a "faine" and go somewhere else....do we really care?

standard operating procedure...thats all it is. He will be in camp (no the first week does not count) and the contract will be very close to being done and the fine print will be all thats left. same as with Grant. I am not worried about this at all.

Re: Unhappy Smith a no-show at workouts
I don't think this was a big surprise honestly
I saw it coming ...hell anyone with a little common knowledge of the contract side of the sport did so I'm sure that the team did as well I mean it's not like it was a big secret that he is under paid but... I bet the fact that Grant is accused of killing someone (and for the record I don’t think he did it but that’s beside the point) this should give Smith a lot of leverage and should push the front office to get the deal done sooner if they are smart lets see how this plays out |
