Play calling was good... its easy to second guess someone after the fact. You have to credit the Jets D they are a good group and well coached.

Re: Offensive Playcall Concerns
It had nothing to do with the 4th and 1's. It was the bullsh!t conservative play calling in the 3rd quarter. Dont get me wrong, I am more than happy about 4-0, but we have to put the dagger in the hearts of other teams to seal the win. The #1 offense has been shut down by 2 good D's the past couple of weeks, but thats no excuse for the plays that were called in the 3rd. JMHO

Re: Offensive Playcall Concerns
Lets see...last couple of years rather silly play calling on offense and mediocre defense has resulted in no playoffs.
This year so far the defense is playing well and the offense isn't taking chances and the Saints are 4-0. I'm pretty sure I'll take this style. Drew Brees looked down field several times and checked down because there was no reason to heave the ball unless the receiver was wide open. No interceptions. No need for quick slants when Pierre Thomas is averaging 4 yards a carry. Even Reggie Bush averaged 6 yards a carry. I think it is a sign of coaching maturity that the Saints don't give games away. |
Re: Offensive Playcall Concerns
I liked it.
Payton HAD to go for it on 4th. We told him to from the stands. Blame us. |
Re: Offensive Playcall Concerns
Couple ways to look at 4th and 1.
If you don't make it your defense has an opportunity and as we saw that opportunity pretty much sealed the game. If the Saints kick a field goal then the Jets get a chance on Special teams. Right now I'd rather trust the defense to pin a rookie QB in the endzone than a suspect Special Teams unit. |
Re: Offensive Playcall Concerns
special teams and the kicking game is there for a reason......we went for it 3 times on 4th down against the jets instead of taking the points
always always take the points.....it'll come back to help later.....against the giants we wont be so lucky....we need to start playing smarter football from the top down carney is one of the most accurate kickers in the league...he isnt known for having the strongest leg but the longest fg we would've attempted was 48 yards and that is easily in carney's range...... morestead is one of the best young punters in the league and he has the leg to pin any team back from almost anywhere on the field.....why didnt we punt or kick more?......stupid |
Re: Offensive Playcall Concerns
I don't think anything has changed much with Payton...once a gambler always a gambler. I watch the Giants a lot and there is no doubt in my mind that Coughlin would have opted for the FG's in those situations. If Carney can't make 'em from 47, then we need to get Hartley back. (I'm a Carney fan, though, and I think he would've nailed it.)
The difference, however, is the defense...and anyone who denies it hasn't been paying attention. I love the style of defense we are playing now and wonder why it took so long. In the past, the defense would've folded and Payton would pay for his risk-taking, but this defense has his back. This team is for real. |
