It Is What It Is WEEI NFL Power Rankings - Week 5
WEEI NFL Power Rankings - Week 510.06.09 at 1:48 am ET By Joe Zarbano The Saints come marching in to the No.1 spot in this week’s WEEI NFL Power Rankings. After a strong performance against the New York Jets, New Orleans and Drew Brees find themselves on top of the football world. The Saints are joined by the Colts, Giants, Jets and Patriots in the Top 5. The Ravens drop from the top 5 to No. 7 after losing to New England in the final seconds on Sunday. The Denver Broncos improved to 4-0 this week and jump to the No. 13 spot. This Sunday will finally show us what the Broncos are made of, as they will likely face their toughest test yet in New England. The Patriots will play their fourth straight game against an undefeated team — New England is the first team to start a season against five unbeaten teams since the 1986 Philadelphia Eagles. For more on this, click here. Lastly, congratulations to Brett Favre becoming the first player in the NFL to defeat all 32 teams. That is quite a feat. Favre, Adrian Peterson, Jared Allen and the rest of the Vikings are at No.6. 1. (Last Week, 4) 4-0-0 Who would have thought the Saints defense would be the difference maker four weeks into the season? New Orleans continues to cause turnovers and then capitalize on them. The Saints have 10 interceptions, and are tied at second place in the NFL with plus 7 in the takeaway/giveaway department. 2. (3) 4-0-0 Peyton Manning and the Colts offense are at the top of almost every offensive statistic possible. They rank first in passing yards, passing touchdowns and receiving yards. The Colts are firing all all cylinders. 3. (1) 4-0-0The Giants have only their weak schedule to blame for falling a couple spots in the rankings. The undefeated G-Men are one of the best teams in the NFL and will be competing for the top spot all year. Many are looking forward to Week 6, when the Saints and Giants square off in New Orleans. Eli Manning has stepped up his game another notch this year after many thought his game would suffer with the loss of Plaxico Burress. The Giants rank 1st in the NFL in total defense. 4. (5) 3-1-0 Mark Sanchez and the Jets came back to earth on Sunday in New Orleans, where Sanchez finally looked like a rookie. However, the New York defense is still one of the best in the league, allowing an average of 14.3 points per game. |

Re: Do You Believe It? NFL Power Ratings Week 5
Week 5 NFL Power Rankings 2009 | NowPublic News Coverage
After an intriguing Week 4, the 2009 NFL season is in full swing. The Giants continue to roll and the New Orleans Saints are the talk of the NFL after their win over the Jets. Not to mention, Tom Brady and his teammates are starting to look like the Pats of old. Here are some NFL Power Rankings for Week 5 (Last week's ranking is in brackets): 1 (1) New York Giants (4-0) Yeah, Eli Manning is injured, but he shouldn't be slowed down too much. And his chemistry with his young receivers gets better by the week. How long until Steve Smith of the Carolina Panthers is referred to as the other Steve Smith? 2 (2) New Orleans Saints (4-0) Everyone talks about the Saints offense, but the Saints D has allowed just 17 points in the last two games. 3 (6) Indianapolis Colts (4-0) Is is too soon to say that Peyton Manning is the front runner for NFL MVP? 4 (6) Minnesota Vikings (4-0) Brett Favre is good, not nearly as good as Jon Gruden and the genuflecting MNF broadcast team made him sound, but still good. 4 (11) New England Patriots (3-1) A huge win for the Pats. Tom Brady seems to be rounding into shape, and the Pats defense managed to put some pressure on Joe Flacco. They may just be rounding into shape. 6 (3) Baltimore Ravens (3-1) A tough loss to a quality Patriots team. They are a bit banged up, but still one of the scariest teams in the league. |

NFL Power Rankings Week 5
The NFL Power Rankings for Week 5 show that there were some major battles this week. The Elite: We'll give the Broncos some credit, they played a great game to beat a mediocre Cowboys team. This weekend will show if they are for real or not. The Saints showed they belong with a great win against the Jets. 1. New Orleans Saints 2. New York Giants 3. Indianapolis Colts 4. Minnesota Vikings 5. New England Patriots 6. Baltimore Ravens 7. New York Jets 8. Denver Broncos |

Re: Do You Believe It?
I think the Saints beat the Giants...and it could be a laugher. It's kinda weird, though. Eli is coming home, hopefully not hurt too bad, and a chance to prove that he belongs in the elite status along with Drew, Peyton, and Tom. Drew, on the other hand, might share that burden with Eli...as Eli already has a ring although not considered elite, and Brees has all the stats in the world and elite status, but not really much else to show for his career. Drew needs to keep winning big games and the Giants will be, well, pardon the pun, but...a giant one.
The Jets game was a big test for the team, and, IMO, it was the defense that stole the show...but a win is a win. I think it will take more participation by Drew and the offense to beat the Giants, but like I said from the beginning, I think he and the rest of the team will be up for the task. |
Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!
