Saints trim roster by 12

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints released 12 players, it was announced today by Executive Vice-President/General Manager Mickey Loomis. The Saints must still trim their roster by two players to comply with the NFL's roster maximum of 65 players (not including NFL Europe exemptions) by 3 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Aug. 26.

The 12 players released are CB Reggie Doster, G Shawn Draper, CB Lynaris Elpheage, WR Ira Gooch, S Corey Hall, WR Terrell Harris, RB Curtis Keaton, P Mark Mariscal, T Jared Peck, WR Terrill Shaw, FB Demetrius Smith and RB Walt Williams.

These moves bring the Saints' current active roster to 74 players - 67 plus seven players who participated in NFL Europe last spring and have a roster exemption until Aug. 31. On that date, all NFLE exemptions expire and teams must have a maximum of 53 players on their Active/Inactive list by 3 p.m. CT.

The seven Saints with NFLE exemptions are DT Jovon Bush, QB Chris Finlen, CB Deveron Harper, G Peter Heyer, T Scot Osborne, G Melvin Paige and DT John Schlecht.

What does this leave us with for RB? Deuce, carter, fenderson, ?? that seems like it is playing it awfully thin for the last preseason game.

It was the right move. Keaton is worthless. Actually - you think maybe we should try him on defense?
