Re: What If? Brees to Miami.. Saints miss out on another big FA
As a Dolphins fan I would have obviously loved to had gotten a QB of Brees status and trust me we've really needed one since Marino retired. With that said I'm truly glad he went to the Saints. I'm not trying to be corny but sometimes things are bigger then sports and if any city needed and deserved a boost it's New Orleans. I know how loyal your fan base is and who knows what would have happened if your team didn't get a successful team on the field so quick. Would you be the San Antonio Saints now? (Ugh) That would be a bigger shame then my team not getting a franchise QB.
And who knows maybe we do have ours in Henne, time will tell. Although I doubt he'll ever be Brees but thats okay you guys gave us Ricky and we really love the guy on and off the field. |

Re: What If? Brees to Miami.. Saints miss out on another big FA
Thanks FinFan...
If Brees wasn't here, the Saints would still be in New Orleans. The fans here love the Saints. Almost the entire area that the Saints pull their fan base from is an area where you are born, raised and live Saints football. Not too many people move to this area so Saints football is in our blood. I really don't think being a contender really has much to do with it. It certainly helps drive season ticket waiting lists, but just being around 8-8 would put enough people in the seats. Currently we have a 50,000 season ticket waiting list because of the 2006 NFC Championship Game & season, but after Katrina, the whole region (MS,LA,TX,AL,FL) came together and supported the team like never before. Ask SkyMike how may people from Houston make the 6 hour drive to come to the Dome. To answer Paz question: I really thnk they would stil be here and it wouldn't matter. We might not have a huge waiting list though. |

No Drew Brees=No 2006 Division Championship, No trip to the NFC Championship game, No #1 offense in the NFL, No undefeated start to 2009.

For sure the Saints would still be here. Football is almost on par with the Church here. Benson was using the move for leverage to get the deal with the state. Not sure Bush would be here though and we may have got stuck with Vince Young or Matt L in the draft. For sure we would not have seen the playoff run and the progression to where we are today. In short we would be where we had been in the past stuck in mediocrity.

It would definitely suck without Brees. But SP would've gotten us a young stud QB somehow. Rita also probably kept them from being called the San Antonio Diablos!

I can honestly say that I was a saints fan when brees came to new Orleans. I'm originally from Guam u.s.a. And when I first watched my first saints game on t.v. I fell in love with the saints. So just goes to show saints fans are even located on a island in the pacific! Now I live in Cali. So you have a west coast fan as well

That Brees Fins jersey makes me want to puke. Drew has been the face of this franchise and we certainly wouldn't have had the same amount of success without him.
FinFan was right on, the city of New Orleans needed Brees as much as he needed a good young coach. Some things just work out. What is really interesting is that we almost had a #9 jersey (or maybe his college #17) playing QB for us with the name Romo on the back. IF that would have happened then we probably wouldn't have even been looking at Brees. Just in the land of "ifs" that is... |
One thing I learned from drinking. You should always go Christmas caroling with a group. Oh, and always in mid-December.

Re: What If? Brees to Miami.. Saints miss out on another big FA
IMO, had the Saints not been able to sign Brees as a free agent, we would have had many thousands of Matt Leinart threads in here. A good chance Leinart would have been fine for the Saints, but probably an even better chance the Saints may have the same version as Leinart in Arizona...
