More Fun With Stats

I was very surprised when I studied the game stats. Who would have thought:

Rushing plays Saints 27 Dolphins 30
Net yards rushing Saints 138 Dolphins 137
Rushing Avg. Saints 5.1 Dolphins 4.7
Tackled for loss Saints 2 Dolphins 6

After all the scary runs by the Dolphins, we out rushed them. (Although by the skinniest of margins.)

We beat them at their own game!

Re: More Fun With Stats

The Saints really shut down the run. This is a case of stats being misleading. Other than the 69-yarder from Rickey Williams, the Dolphins were ineffective. Ronnie Brown averaged 3.0 YPC (16 carries, 48 yards). Take away Rickey's long run, and he averaged just over 1 YPC. The Wildcat wasn't so wild.

I am very proud of our run D. If they can stop the Dolphins, they can stop anyone.

You omitted time of possession, which was 33 to 27 in favor of the Saints.

So basically, in the 2nd half, when the Dolphins needed to run their dumb wildcat to control the ball and the clock, the Saints stuffed it, and then to add insult to injury, ran the ball down their throat, and won the game.
