I gotta give it up to Venturi for having the right focus and at least trying from what i read of his quotes in an ESPN article.

From ESPN article:

For a season when the Saints could have as many as seven new starters on the defensive side, the always-manic Venturi wants his unit to be quicker, to locate the ball with more efficiency, to assimilate the technique changes he had implemented, to tackle sounder, to force turnovers, to create scoring opportunities.
To, well …

.....\"Well, to be kind of more like Tampa Bay, you know?\" conceded Venturi, as he finished off the practice script for the following morning\'s workout, and hustled down the hall to the copying machine. \"You know what I mean.\"

Venturi is the best football coach I have ever seen. Haz is second.

These are Gil Brandt\'s rankings for defenses for 2003:

rankings
2002 defensive ranking in parentheses
1.Tampa Bay (1)
2.Baltimore (22)
3.Carolina (2)
4.Miami (3)
5.Philadelphia (4)
6.New England (23)
7.Tennessee (10)
8.New York Giants (9)
9.New York Jets (24)
10.Oakland (11)
11.Atlanta (19)
12.Pittsburgh (7)
13.Indianapolis (8)
14.Denver (6)
15.Buffalo (15)
16.Jacksonville (20)
17.St. Louis (13)
18.Dallas (18)
19.Green Bay (12)
20.Cincinnati (17)
21.Washington (5)
22.San Francisco (14)
23.Seattle (28)
24.Cleveland (21)
25.Kansas City (32)
26.New Orleans (27)
27.Chicago (25)
28.Houston (16)
29.San Diego (30)
30.Detroit (25)
31.Arizona (29)
32.Minnesota (26)

I hope we show better than 26, this won\'t get it at all. Middle of the pack I think will get us to the playoffs if, the offense shines like we all think it can and if opposing teams don\'t kick away from Lewis every time they kick off or punt.

I beleive that the sign of a good coach is being able to get the most out of your players, no matter how good or bad, young or old, experienced or inexperienced they are. A good coach must motivate, lead and command the respect of his players. It is his responsibility to build and foster a healthy team spirit within his players. He must be able to overcome adversity (player injuries, etc) and still direct his team to have the best possible showing. He should not make excuses for himeself or his players, but should instead take whatever actions are necessary to correct problems and/or get rid of problem players. He should shoulder the ultimate blame for losses and poor player performances and he should receive the ultimate praise for wins and good performances from his players.

I believe Haz and Venturri have both proven they capable and even above average in many areas, but I still believe they lack in other important areas, particularly in regards to motivation, team spirit and being able to overcome adversity.

Maybe I will be proved wrong this season. I sincerely hope I will, but only time will tell.

Go SAINTS!!!!!

*** I hate to sound like a pessimist in many of my posts, but damn it, I want people to step up and be accountable for their actions. They make millions of dollars for playing football, a job that most of us here would LOVE to have. So PLAY FOOTBALL like it is the most important thing in your life, if only for 60 minutes a week!

Go SAINTS!!!!!

No Saintfan - I\'m not talking about Haslett, Brooks, or the Defense anymore. I\'ve made my points a THOUSAND times. So have a thousand other members of this board. I\'m waiting for the season now. Then in a few weeks I\'ll be back to the Benson Boogie in the corner while you and Billy and all the others make excuses or change your tunes.

And one other thing, yet again, I do hope I\'m wrong. Not only would that mean the Saints are a good team, but also that you and Billy and a whole slew of others on this board (that contrary to popular belief I atually do like) wouldn\'t have to be institutionalized after your fragile egos were crushed one too many times. HA!

No fragile ego here mah freend. If Brooks plays poorly I\'ll be back in here to admit it...and I WILL admit it as I\'ve done in the past...(see the Cleveland game comments from last year). Now, If I could just get YOU to admit when one of YOUR statements is proved incorrect...(see the Jake Delhomme will Start for the Panthers quote of yours).

You and \"08\" have been led to the water...whether or not you drink is up to you! LOL

Season hasn\'t started yet. If Jake doesn\'t start in week 1 then I will review the evidence and might admit that I may have been mistaken. LOL

Or like a supreem court judge my opinion may just have changed. LOL - anyone ever read 1984? George Orwell? Oceania has always been at war with east-asia - Whodat has always predicted Rodney Peete would be the starter... HA!
