Are the Saints going through their slump?
I've read on another forum thread how the Saints are currently slumping now. I agree with that. Looking at the last few games, the Saints have turned the ball over and nagging injuries are playing a big part in our defense giving up yards (having no Sed Ellis helped Turner out a lot). Plus the linebacker play hasn't looked quite as sharp. Still the Saints still are finding ways to win, which is what good teams do. Knowing with all the mistakes that have occurred and such, it makes me feel good as a Saints fan to know that the potential for this team is incredibly high, and really I don't even think the Saints have come close to what they are capable of, especially with their talent.
BTW I'm abruslep, but when the database went down I lost my name, so I am this now. |

Eight turnovers in two weeks. They have to tighten that up.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. We played some bad football the last 2 games. It's a testament to how good we are that we still won.
I think if we bring our A-game, not only can we beat anyone, we can destroy them. The Carolina game worries me quite a bit. |

8 turnovers in 2 weeks. Looks like the Saints of 2008.
Our defense has been keeping us in games. Hats off to Jabari Greer. He gets my game ball. |

From where I'm sitting it looks like a slump...although, they're having my kind of slump and they are still winning. It just looks sloppy.

Re: Are the Saints going through their slump?
I know that the Saints are suffering from a lot of key injuries now. After what Turner did to the Saints last night I am very worried about the Panthers run game next week. Stack the box and dare Delhomme to beat you.

Re: Are the Saints going through their slump?
I think i'll have to politely disagree. I don't think the Saints are in a slump. But I guess it's according to what your definition of slump is. To me a slump is when boneheaded plays and poor execution results in a string of losses. I think other teams are studying our game film and exploiting weaknesses. Of course some of these weaknesses are due to first string injuries of names like Ellis, Jamal, and Fujita. When brees gets mugged in the pocket and gives up a fumble, thats not exactly the definition of "slump". That means the defense is getting penetration.
It's not gonna get any easier from here on out. As long as the Saints are undefeated other teams are gonna be gunning for 'em with everything they got. A slump? No. It just means some good teams are having some measurable success at trying to create turnovers in an attempt to turn the tide. And like I said, you're gonna see more of this as we play teams with losing records down the stretch. You're gonna see fake punts, trickery plays, and defenses concentrating less on form tackling and more on stripping the ball and disrupting Brees. |

Re: Are the Saints going through their slump?
We're certainly not playing the kind of ball we were against the Eagles and Giants. That being said, I hope this puts the fear of God in the players and coaching staff to not be caught off guard by the likes of the Panties, Rams, and Bucs. I have a feeling SP and GGGGGGGGW will have the boys ready next week.

Re: Are the Saints going through their slump?
I agree with Saintsfan4ever, I don't look at it as a slump either. We have played a couple of quality teams, capable of making some plays and guess what? They did! The Brees sack and fumble was a fluke imo, not likely to happen very often but we do need to clean up the turnovers in general. The injuries have us a bit on our heels right now but hopefully we can get healthier over the next 3 weeks and have some of our people back in time for the big MNF match-up with the Pats.

Re: Are the Saints going through their slump?
These past two games gives us a bit of a reality check. It may just be what the doctor ordered. I tend to agree it will motivate GW and SP to inspire our team to do better. First test against Carolina!
