Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion
I reallize, and acknowledge, that this is NOT the same defense the Panthers are used too, but with that said, I saw the stat today on ESPN. The Panthers have won 6, out of the last 7 times we've played them. That is a VERY important stat, when you are talking about the mind frame of your QB. I guarantee that Brees, is thinking about this. Are we the better team? Yes, by far. But if this is a championship team, then i see this as a mental hurdle, that we have to get over. Just like Manning, against the Patriots, or Tampa against Philly. Make no mistake ladies and gentlemen... in our division, the Panthers are our nemesis. It's time to get the monkey off our back.

Agreed. That monkey needs to be stomped.
The bottom line is that they are equal to or worse at almost every position than Atlanta. We have been finding ways to win and Carolina finding was to lose. If we show up with a B+ or better game we walk them home and kiss them goodnight. If we show up with a poor effort and execution then they have all that is needed to best us. I respect their run game, o-line, Steve Smith, Peppers and Beason immensely. Not too many others give me any loss of sleep. Show up and dominate Saints. |

However: In 2006, the Panthers and the Saints split: the first game the Saints lost by 3 in Carolina, then the Panthers beat the Saints in a completely meaningless last game of the season, in which the Saints starters played 1 quarter. Had the starters played the entire game, they would've killed the Panthers. So I am really not going to count that meaningless game as a win the Panthers earned. So, it really stands at 4-1 in meaningful games. BUT: In 2007, Saints lost at home by 3 and put a beatdown on the Panthers in Charlotte 31-6. In 2008, the Saints had no defense. They did take a beatdown in Charlotte, and should've won the game in the Superdome. THIS time, the Saints have a defense. This time, Delhommie better think twice about throwing those floaters to Smith that used to beat David and Bullocks all the time. Heck,I'm looking forward to Sharper returning 3 INTs to the house this Sunday |

Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion
This team has to protect Brees this week better than the last two games. I am hoping they do not give up the long runs and that we can turn their plan on them with long drives using our improved run game. With Brees at the helm almost anything can happen when he sees them cheating. Look for a hard fought gamw.

Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion
Guys, let's remember the last time we played the Panthers. I was at that game last year. We had a lousy D, fell behind by a ton of points.
Then Brees got hot. We actually took the lead before Jason David whiffed on Steve Smith and we lost on that last second field goal as time expired. We HAVE had success scoring on this team. I think Brees knows how to pick this team apart, and has done it the last time he faced them. Were it not for our God-awful defense last year, we would have won that game. 6 out of 7 does not tell the whole story. Frankly, there was the game too that (I think it was Grammatica) missed the FG's and we ended losing at the end again. Another one of those 6 was at the end of 06 when we were resting the starters. Don't eat the "6 out of 7" cheese... |

Carolina is 3-4 for a reason and we are 7-0 for a reason. I know our history as a franchise has some of you gun shy about seeing the obvious but don't let that cloud your judgement. This will be a so-so game with us winning by at least 10 or more points. Drink the koolaid, people, we are for real.

Re: Panthers fans turn to delusion
We got Ayodele, Hargrove and Pressley (just signed from the Practice Squad) on the roster w/Ellis out for a few weeks and Clancy on the shelf until next year. This will be a test for this bunch against Carolina's running game. Who knows? The Saints just might hold off Williams and Stewart and force Ol' Jake to throw.
