Do you think the Saints are built to be a Dynasty?
 

Tom Benson looks to have passed the reigns to Rita. In the last few years the Saints have created a strong FO and they do an excellent job of finding talent in the most unusual places. They have brought in Payton who studied under Bill Parcells and knows how a quality organization is run. They also brought in Williams and other coaches who put the Saints in a position to win. The locker room is led by Drew Brees who has the potential to be in the HOF(a Superbowl win would get him there) The team develops players and grooms them to be successors. There is a lot of good depth through out the team and we have a good rotation with solid backups who don't seem to miss a beat because they are well trained. The teams locker room has chemistry that is infectious to the newcomers and there is a team first attitude. So, my question is have the New Orleans Saints been built to be a dynasty? :cool:

I think its WAY to early to even hint at this team as being a dynasty. We are still a building up coming team for sure. We just got an important peice of the puzzle by getting Williams, which remains to be seen how long are we going to be able to hang on to him.

I don't think Tom has turn the reigns over to Rita. I don't see that happening for awhile yet still. She's apart of it but its still Tom.

As long as we have Drew Brees at the helm and keep making great offseason acquisitions, I dont see why not.

You're missing an important catagory. I think we will be ok for a couple of seasons, but pretty soon our pantry will be raided.

We've had a dynasty for years. Just not the kind you want to be known for.

I agree it is premature to talk about being a Superbowl winner or even that we are a Dynasty, but the question is do you think we were built to be a dynasty? (you know...built strong from the inside)

No, obviously we're not a dynasty at this point. Here's how I'd define a dynasty ...

- 2 Championships in a 5-year span
- Perennial playoff contender in 5-year span, preferably longer
- Star players, big name players
- Additional fans and merchandise nationwide
- Non-fans get tired of hearing about that team

By my definition there were only two dynasties in the NFL in this decade - New England and Pittsburg. For the Saints, this would be, at best, year 1 of a budding dynasty. And if Armageddon comes in 2012 we're screwed.

I think that as an organization, we are on the right track, but until the train, stops in Miami, I don't
want to even consider this. I'm sorry, I just believe in jinx's, and this is a major one to me.

I guess my answer is yes, but I'd word it a little differently. The Saints have the capacity. Stable ownership, we know the team will stay in N.O. now, good coaching, supportive fans. And our core of players is not too old.

But as we saw with the Rams about 10 years ago, it can turn south and your s**t can start to stink in a hurry.
