The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
I reallize that I live on the west coast, and that the saints are about 3000 miles away from me every sunday, but I have to say, that last night I received what I will refer to as the ultimate snub.
I live in Santa Rosa CA, and I went to the downtown mall last night, looking for Saints gear. Trust me, where I live, it's like searching for the holy grail! (before anyone says anything, I do order stuff online, but I like to see if the sports stores have it as well) Anyway, I walked into the store, and the only saints stuff I found, was two sideline hats, and the sideline beanie. I asked the store owner if he had anything else, and he responded, "The Saints?" "No I'm sorry, we don't get much request for the Saints." THEY HAD DETROIT, CLEVELAND, AND TAMPA BAY STUFF, BUT NOT EVEN A SAINTS KEY CHAIN!!! It was very upsetting, as you can see. I asked him, will you guys be getting any stuff before Christmas? "No." "Sorry." I even told him that he was insulting me, by having Detroit Lions blankets, but not even a Saints bottle opener. Has anyone else ran into this??? |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
You can always move.
I am in Los Angeles and I can find a good bit of Saints stuff on store shelves. When I lived in VA thought it was scarce but I told they guy who owned the store I won't buy anything in here until he has Saints merchandise. Finally one day he had some stuff and I started shopping there. |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
With the economy, or the lack of one, moving money isn't exactly falling into my lap. I want one of those fireman's helmets, saints of course, but I can't find one of those anywhere! I looked online, on every site possible, and still no dice.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Yeah, same thing here in Miami and when I lived in Philly. I'm afraid we're just not a "national" team. But it's still surprising because our bandwagon is pretty big. I'm met tons of people that count the Saints not as their favorite team, but a team they "can root for." Probably because of the miracle Post-Katrina year and the fantasy points Drew Brees puts up.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
I know exactly how you feel, SaintPaul. A few thoughts.
-- Dont get mad at the clerk. He just works there, and doesnt have any reason to live. I usually say "this is not your fault, you just work here, but..." & throw in something like, "I'll bet if you were the boss, ... and you'd make a million $$," which makes them smile. I enjoy getting smiles from people who are sick of people. -- Houston: a mere 6 hour drive from N.O... the oil biz, The Storm, and 3 centuries of Acadian migration mean there are more Saints Fans here than Texans fans. But store mgrs. here are from somewhere else, and are oblivious. So Academy, replete with UT bandwagoner gear, tons of unsold Texans gear, and Dallas Cowboy merchandise--- has zero Saints gear. Some clueless Suit in Peoria probably draws up the map, just as some people dont know how many Steelers fans there are in Eastern Ohio. I just used Academy as an example. Even Walmart here, I noticed is oblivious to the Louisiana flavor of the local population. You can find Patriots stuff here, along with all the unsold Texans stuff. Local tv has figured it out, but I think that simply has to do more with success, and besides, that is also pretty much a corporate call. --I predict Next Season, every sports outlet in every city in the U.S. will have Saints stuff, just as you can find Steelers stuff anywhere now. I actually found Saints nerf footballs in Ottawa, Ill last summer. So, fret not, my friend. We will get respect soon. (btw, I rode a rollercoaster in San Antonio sunday, your ears would not have liked... that joker was so high, you could see the skyline 15 miles away, but was actually pretty smooth) GEAUX. |

I live in Alabama and can only find college gear.. almost no Saints gear at all.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
The weird thing Mike, was the two guys behind the counter WERE the owners. Two indian guys. They are nice, but when I started talking football with them, they didn't seem to have a clue as to what I was talking about. I think they bought the store from someone else. I think it sucks when people, who don't know their own product, owns a specialty store. Oh well, capitalism, what can you say?
I appreciate the effort JColl, but that's the hard hat. I'm looking for one of the old school, fire chief helmets. I saw a Texan fan with one on, and it looked awesome. Had the emblem on the front, and the brim was pretty thick. Roller coasters!!! Whew. That sounds like a killer Mike. Hope you didn't spew! |

kidding. So, yeah, I have the same thing here in Houston. Everyone here just got here from Mexico, so if its not soccer, they have no clue. They have Cowboys stuff everywhere, and unsold Texans gear. If it werent for UT bandwagoners, they'd all go broke. But Capitalism is a good thing my brother. It is exactly the reason you will find Saints stuff more and more by the end of the season. And smart shop owners get rewarded with dollars, dumb ones wonder why they're going under. I've never seen the firehat you're looking for, but I'll bet you find it online. rollercoasters dont make me spew, I love speed, and wish I could go that fast on the freeway w/o getting a ticket. I'll even ride those "tower-drop" rides. But round-and-round stuff--- KILLS my stomach. I cant even ride merry-go-rounds in the playground. But I like you because you're mad that you cant get Saints stuff. You automatically go up 4 notches in my book for that. coolness. |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
I just moved from Dallas (where believe it or not Saints gear is available) to Vallejo, California, so SaintPaul I feel your pain. You're lucky you found anything. All I see is Raiders, 49ers and USC. I work downtown though, and I wear my Saints stuff enough to piss off my co-worker Raider fans.
Thank God for Direct TV and DVRs! |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
same here, ZERO ! but who cares . i kind of like it that way.
|
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
I don't think you guys are understanding, the "disrespect" aspect, of what I'm talking about. They had cleveland, detroit, the texans, and tampa bay stuff. They didn't have Saints stuff. The Texans have only been around for what, eight years? Detroit was winless last year, and they just beat Cleveland! If they have Saints stuff or not, it's kind of irrelevant, the point was, they had these other teams stocked! I have lived in NorCal for twenty plus years, and I have NEVER seen a Browns fan here. Thus, the dis, in my eyes.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
I live in charlotte, and it's the same thing here. All crappy teams but no saints.
|
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Mike, I still wonder if my 'grand" idea would work here in Houston ... i'm just scared to quit the crappy job I have now that's a steady pay check for something that might or might not work

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!

Its about supply and demand. If there is no demand in your area for it then why the hell should they put the items on there selves?
Its business... Don't take it personal. |

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Ok Euph. I understand basic economics. But, yes, I do take it personally. If I needed to go out and buy a Detroit Lions garbage can, I know I have that covered here in Rosa. But if I want a Saints keychain, I have to order it online, because apparently, in a store, that supposedly is an NFL specialty shop, which last time I checked, the Saints are an NFL team by the way, doesn't feel the need to carry them.
Point being, if this was just a "regional" thing, then fine, I wouldn't be that worried about it. BUT, being that they have browns, texans, and bucs stuff, so obviously it's not regional. That's the point. |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Even NFL specialty shops are owned by someone. Its the owners call what he sales and based on the data he probably had he probably ordered stuff that he felt he could move for a profit. He he couldn't move for a profit you can't hold it against him for not stocking on his shelves.
My point if you have such an issue with it you needed to take it up with the manager or store owner. Let him know what you are interested in seeing in his store and that if he stocked 'said' items you would frequent his establishment and make purchases. Take your anger and frustration to him and get personal with him. lol. |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Which you might have noticed that I posted that I did talk to him, and he didn't really understand what I was talking about. He didn't even know we were 10 and 0 right now, so there's the point. I did tell him if he stocked Saints stuff, me and my friends would come in there, but he wasn't interested. Which is even more of an insult, because even with the prospect of making some sales, he declined.
Being able to cater to every customer that walks in, instead of just a few, makes your business a success. Especially considering Bush had the number one jersey a few years ago. He didn't even know who he was! Taking something personal for me, usually results in me knocking someone out. I talked, he didn't listen, thus, the dis, which is the reason for this post. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this, so I asked. Sorry to inconvienence anyone.... sheesh! BTW, how is this post getting personal anyway? It's not like I'm talking about Melrose Place here. |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Count yourself lucky. I live in England and when I mention NFL in sports shop...
Me: Hello, do you have any NFL gear? Assistant: Pardon. Me: American Fooball gear. Assistant : Erm...Kevin, do we have any American stuff? Me: Football stuff. Has to be football. Kevin: Hello can I help. A: Yeah, he wants football gear. K: It's over there (points to premiership soccer shirts) M: No, that's not what I want. I would like NFL stuff, American Football. K: Oh that's downstairs. Follow me. DOWNSTAIRS K: There it is (looking at NBA shirts) M: No, this is Basketball. K: Oh. What is it you were after? M: NFL. American Football. Gridiron. K: Oh, we don't do that. I walked away so frustrated and left Kevin laying there clutching his nuts. (Actually , I made that last bit up. His name was Steve) |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Maybe they can sell my Aaron Brooks jersey for me.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Ive seen Saints hats & shirts in larger Boston stores, but not Providence.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Here in Colorado, finding Saints merchandise is like finding gold. Sure, finding hats is not too uncommon (they tend to be VERY loud and ugly, though) but anything else...good luck. Most of the local collector shops know me and my preference for any and all Saints merchandise so whenever they get anything, they will let me know as soon as I step foot inside their shop.
What bothers me is the lack of t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. There are so many nice things out there from the NFL shop (I get the catalogs) and it is disappointing to never see any Saints gear. In Broncoland, we get any and everything Broncos and ALL of the AFC west is represented, too. Then there are the "popular kids" like the Patriots, Cowgirls, etc. Seeing that the Who Dat Nation is EVERYWHERE, we really should be represented. Hopefully with the success that we are experiencing this year, it can lead to getting more merchandise in the future. And another thing...when are we ever going to get the NFL Films treatment with some sort of DVD release? There could have been one based off of 2006 alone... |

If that was the case I guess the store at the mall here who only sales Raider items should be out of business by now??? He is only catering to one type of people and they suck this year but he seems to still be open. The internet makes everyone a tough guy there big fella. If you were knocking people out like that then you are probably breaking the jails rules by getting online and putting messages on forums. |
Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Ok, it's obvious, that you have a "personal" problem with me. And if my comments offended you, I apologize, but you seem to have been singling me out on this topic. If you read the rest, you might notice I'm not the only one who sees this as a problem, or has a problem with it. And when I said knock someone out, I was explaining myself, not threatening anyone here. If you have a problem with me, which from the way you have responded to me, then so be it, but why not let it out, and we will squash it. I am too old to be going back and forth over this. So, with this post, if you want to squash it, great, if not, then I am done with this conversation. Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
im with SP25 on this issue... an NFL specialty shop in cali who doesnt have at least a Reggie Bush jersey or even know who he is (he played at USC for petes sake) and doesnt know that the Saints are 10-0.. i find it pretty dumb that the manager or owner or clerk or whoever he was speaking to in the "specialty" store doesnt keep up with the sport that he is selling merchandise for.... that is pretty retarded if u ask me... especially since its been plastered all over ESPN for the past 4 or 5 weeks... i think that if you are going to sell something, then you should at least try to have recent information about it.. whether it be sporting merchandise or even power tools or whatever..

I had the very same issue and I explained how I delt with it and won. The store added Saints items the following year and I purchased... it was a win win. We also debated business practice where I do have some knowledge owning 2 different business myself and about to start another at the beginning of the year. ...and I know what you ment about knocking someone out 'anyone can talk tough on the internet". I am sure you didn't mean anything literally. |

That store owner was lying to you - he was probably a hardcore Niners fan and didn't want to tell you that all his Who Dat merchandise is going like hotcakes :-)

Re: The ULTIMATE disrespect!!!
Here in Pensacola there isn't anything to speak of and there is actually a pretty large following. Lots of Jacksonville and Cowboy stuff. N.O is 3 hrs away and Jacksonville is close to 6. I guess Emmitt being from here keeps the Cowboy stuff going. I don't think he plays anymore but he can sure dance.
