This is the first time I've ever written it on this board but, "Trade Reggie Bush."

I've been a student of football for a long time, and I think a lot of people have very short memories. The type of RB bush is needs touches. It's not a perfect comparison, but one of the biggest knocks on Barry Sanders back in his day was that he ran for a lot of negative yards trying to make something happen. He got a lot of touches every game, so the one, two or three that he would rip for a huge gain would offset the 11 times he ran for -3. The highlight films have forgotten this, but the history books still have it - go look it up if you don't believe me.

Sanders was all that the Lions had so they ran him often. The constant pounding is one of the reasons he retired early. Our team has never used Bush like that, partially because of his health (maybe his toughness - not sure about that but there's some annecdotal evidence to support the suspicion) and mostly because the offense isn't designed around Bush and running, but rather around Brees and passing. In our offense, in our system, he's not worth the money he's about to make.

I won't be surprised to see him do well on another team - particularly a team designed around the run game. Time will tell, but it seems to me that Bush's time in N.O. should be over.

The comparison to Sanders isn't perfect, but it's not a terrible one either. Both Bush and Sanders are pretty close in build. Bush is listed as 6'0", 203 while Sanders is 5'8, 200. Couple of things about that. Barry's build was a lot more compact than Bush and he was harder for the defense to see coming to the line. His center of gravity was lower. He wasn't particularly powerful. He was dangerously elusive and it was hard to tackle him because he was so much shorter than everyone else (again with that center of gravity.) I would argue that Barry had a better build to serve the style of running both be and Bush have. I would also argue that Bush's cuts are harder and sharper to Sanders', at least prior to the knee injuries. The problem is with a taller player and a higher center of gravity, a harder cut leads to greater stress on the knees increasing at a exponential rate. Bush's cuts now are a shadow of what they were.

You may be right that he will not do better on another team, but I will wait and see. No matter how often we run now, we are a passing team by design. We run well enough to hold a lead and that's a huge difference from last year, but we are designed for the pass. I'd be interested to see how Bush would do on a team designed for the run - if anyone will take him in trade, that is.
