Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?
Winning the SB is the only thing that is important. If 19-0 can get that done, then fine. If 16-0 impeads the team's ability to win the SB, then scrap it.
If the Saints secure home field next Saturday, then for the next two weeks, the starters should only get a cursory walkthrough in the final two games, with the backups finishing up. If we win, fine. If we don't and no one gets injured, that's fine too. The Cards were 9-7 last year. If their defense could have made a stop on that final drive and they won the SB, then no one would care about the fact they were 9-7. OTOH the 18-1 2007 Pats are remembered most for losing the SB. So if it's 19-0, that fine. But anything less had better have SB Champions following it i.e. the 18-1 SB Champion Saints ... SFIAH |
Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO
Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

Although I'm proud of this team for what they've accomplished already, a 16-0 season would erase for most of the world the memory of the Aint's and put the team in the same discussions of the best team of all time.

But FF, if you lose the ultimate prize being greedy, is it worth it?
Most likely there will be absolutely no incentive in terms of winning the SB for the Saints to run their starters out week 17. Is it really worth the risk? SFIAH |

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?
I don't think it would be a good idea to start sitting players and dial back the play, but, all things equal, and if it came to that, I would definitely prefer to see a 14-2 Saints team at full strength playing in Minnesota than see a limping Saints team play in the Dome.

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?
Peyton wants 19-0, probably because he sees what Indianapolis has done to itself in the past. By resting the starters once HFA is wrapped up, the Colts have lost momentum and been kicked out of the playoffs early.
For that reason, I would like to see us 19-0. But the undefeated throughout doesn't matter as much as the Super Bowl ring. If we can do both, all the better. |
