If you have made holes in your living room wall caused by throwing your remote....You might be a Saints Fan

If your dog hides under the bed during Saints games in fear of being kicked....You might be a Saints Fan

If you show up to work on Monday and find a Paper Bag with a cutout face on your desk.......You might be a Saints Fan

If you have ever defended Aaron Books....You might be a Saints Fan

If you have drank a whole 12 pack in a first quarter...You might be a Saints Fan

If you have a family member that has been giving you crap for years about the Saints and is currently avoiding you....You might be a Saints Fan

And last but not least.

If you BELIEVE....You might be a Saints Fan

How about these qualifications?

Stayed up until 3am in Germany in Army Barracks to watch them Play Atlanta in the Play offs in 1991 on Dec 28th?

Hunting as a child with Hokie Gajan in Gueydan (1983)?

Chewing out the manager at Academy in Houston (moved here) because there is not any Saints merchandise (yesterday)?

I remember listing to the Saints/Bears game in '90 on a crappy radio while in a Bradley. Sucky game too.

A bad Saints game is better than no game at all. I know this because I now live in Houston and rarely get to watch the game. I had to sit in my drive way when they played the Skins in OT listening to XM in the rain.

My Neighbors look at me funny now. They just would not understand.

Fan is short for Fanatic. And Fanatic we are.

Did you call into wwl (Bobby and Deke) after the game? If not someone else in Houston did the same thing.

No I didnt.

I also spent the entire 2006/2007 season watching nfl.com automated game from a Motel room in Nigeria.

Is there any way to see the games via internet?

If I were to get a tatoo it would be something to do with the saints. However i am not one for tatoos.

A Fleur-De-Lis at 38 would look like a wounded duck at 78.

To our newer Brethren browsing this thread:

Obviously there are a lot of "old timers" who are throwin' their tenure around for kicks... Obviously, if you are 20 years old, you probably don't know who Carl Smith was :) , or knew that Bum Phillips once coached the Saints, heck, you don't have an idea who Bum Phillips is... the reality is, you know when you are a "real fan", and we know when you aren't :)

My intent was not to name drop. I actually hunted with him. My father was a Saints fan also. Probably the biggest Kenny Stabler fan that ever lived. Never knew why he liked "The Snake".

That's Adrian McPherson in the picture though.

But if someone threw up the backward pass Deuce has to leap on to save it it would work as well.

My Saints tattoo from 23 years ago is still holding up reasonably. I'll let you know in 40 more years though.

Every day of my life has something Saints related in it. Some days it is a large percentage of my thoughts. They truly are part of my family and always will be.

Same thing happened to me that weekend. What grind my gears was that FOX put the Cowboys game on when the Saints were headed for overtime. I had to run out to the car to listen to the rest. When it was over, I was yelling who dat at the top of my lungs. If the neighbors didn't know I was crazy before that, well now they know.

Hey Strato,

They are all right here in Dallas making excuses and living in the past. I work in the middle of them and it's amazing how easy it is for them to live in the past these days. ;)

Anyway, hello B&G. I'm new to the board. Been lurking for awhile and it seems there are a bunch of good folks hanging around here. Appreciate you guys letting me join the fun.

Thank you guys.

I'm stuck in Cowgirl country but headed back home just as soon as humanly possible. In the meantime, I give em hell up here every chance I get. What I am really enjoying is listening to the uncertainty in their voices when they explain to me what a beating this weekend will be for the Saints. The fans don't believe they can win and I'm fairly certain that their team doesn't believe it either.

All of this actually has me looking forward to work on Monday mornings.

Thought this was pretty good. Yesterday when my wife checked the mail there was one of those slips in the box that you get when there is something too big to fit but it looked strange to her. After getting home and taking a closer look, it was a note left by our cowboy fan mailman who said "Please take it easy on my cowboys Saturday night". Now that's saying something when you live in Texas and the mailman knows who your a fan of.:cheering:

Your welcome. It was 15 years ago and I have not heard that in a log time. Well except for from my wife on veterans day...

That did not piss me off as much as the local FOX affiliate showing the Eagles Falcons game instead of the Saints Skins. WTF?.. I thought they would show the closest regional teams game...

Re: What are the qualifications to be a "real fan"?

This has been one of the most entertaining posts on the board ... Thanks for starting it --- brought back TONS of memories.

My love for the Saints started at around 4 or 5 years old when on a routine Sunday with my whole family (Aunts, Uncles & Cousins, Siblings, etc) we were sitting around watching football. They all had their team and I was easily persuaded. I would say, "I like the Bears!" and my cousin (or whoever it was that liked the Bears) would say, "You can't ... That's my team." This went on and on, but then a game came on and it was someone playing our beloved Saints ... Honestly at 4 years old you like things for the strangest reason ... I LOVED the colors of the uniform, so I yelled out, "I'm A SAINTS FAN!" That was quickly followed by laughter and everyone yelling out ... "You can have them!"

I then remember my cousin handing me a paper sack ... I had no clue why he had done this, but I became some good entertainment, so I put it on my head and danced around ... I was clueless. For me though, when I'm on-board with something ... I'm no-board. Since that moment ... I've never looked back. (That was 28 years ago). I remember my mom ordering me Saints stuff back in the day when you had to mail off for it ... Because I BEGGED her for something SAINTS .. Anything, I just wanted something black and gold.

Craig "IRONHEAD" Heyward, Dalton Hiliard, Pat Swilling, Sam Mills, Rickey Jackson, La'Roi Glover, Bobby Herbert ... These are just some of the players I actually remember by name and seeing them play where I was old enough to actually recognize them.

In the end though ... I don't care who says they are a fan of this team --- there is enough to go around. There are no limits on the amount of us that can love them ... Does it irritate me that people have suddenly jumped on the bandwagon? Sure, but they'll be gone next time we go 5-11, etc. So, who cares? Those of us who TRULY love them won't leave ... Ever, period dot.

The only person I personally know that has been a SAINTS fan since birth is my daughter ... She's 7 weeks old and has NEVER known the SAINTS to be losers. That's special.

WHO DAT!!! I'll be at the Superbowl if we go ... No question.

Yeah I hear ya, that pissed me off too. Fox 26 showed the Rams game so I would of thought they would of shown the Redskins game .... way to piss off your viewing audience, the media here in Houston just don't get it

Re: What are the qualifications to be a "real fan"?

Every time I walk into a sports store here in Houston the walls are covered with Texans and Cowboys, so I politely ask "where is all of the Saints merchandise", or any? I get the same song and dance.... "We just can not keep it on the shelves"...

At that point I reach for my "flag" so i can call "bullsh1t"! And hit them with "intelligence interference" and delay of "real answer".

I know in my heart if there was that big of a supply & demand problem here in Houston some brother Coon-Azz would be trucking it here and selling it on the streets.

My biggest confusion was when I turned on the TV and saw the Texans playing the Oilers.... What the? How in the hell? LOL

drives me crazy. How can you drive 10 minutes on a Houston street and NOT know how many Saints fans there are here???? I cant drive 10 minutes w/o seeing something Saints on a vehicle. I went to KISS week ago Saturday, and
WhoDat'd a guy in a Saints logo. ...The security chick downstairs, the bartender @ my gig Saturday, 3 guests at my friday night gig, the guy in apt 243, my downstairs neighbor, a guy in a toll booth on BW 8, a promotions girl at my station--- you cant go around Houston 10 minutes & not run into a WhoDat. How do businesses not know this?

Some chick working in Sears Sunday morning here in Houston from across the store say my saints sweatshirt and asked. "How can you wear that". I looked at her quizzically and asked "excuse me"? She said "they lost".

I walked away with out replying. I bit my lip with out saying what really came to mind. "How can you smile and talk with a set of teeth that looked like either yellow corn or small slices of butter.

A real fan walks through a Texas mall the day after we lost to Dallas wearing their saints shirt in pride.;)

not surprised at that. She is a Cowboy fan because she's a bandwagoner.

I shoe-whited a 13-0 on the back of my truck saturday morning, but yesterday, I just crossed out the 0, put up a "1," and scrawled, "Still #1." I got honked at "WhoDat'ed all down I-10.

hahaha... that cracks me up... I forget what's on my truck, and I'll drive down the road "BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP!" "huh?" (gestures: "Wooooooo! #1) "oh, yeah... whew... yeah... Who Dat?! hahaha!"

This dude at the mall, kind of a muscledy black guy with a wife & a baby, who looked like he had just been forced to watch a kid movie, had on a gold Deuce jersey. Well I had on a Saints t-shirt under my hoodie, which I raised kind of "girls-gone-wild" like, and he went nuts! Almost broke my fingers slapping my hand--- and his wife was like, "oh for the love of God, honey..." and my wife was startled at first, and then was like, "ok, more WhoDat'ing, I get it." Of course all the onlookers thought we were fighting. God, I love being a Saints fan.
