Re: What are the qualifications to be a "real fan"?

No qualifications for being a real fan. Only qualifications for not being recognised as a real fan. Doesn't matter either ways for me.

I enjoy the Saints getting some respect now. If that means newbies bandwagoning for now, so be it, because once we are on the media / football fan map, we stay there.

You're still here after 1977, 1980, 1996, 1999, 2005 and a hundred other gut wrenching, heart stomping, losses that made you want to drive through a brick wall...

While still PISSED OFF, I'm still wearing the nasty Saints longsleeve T my niece gave me for Xmas.

If Hartley was a true fan, he would have thrown up all over himself at THE BEGINNING of the 4th instead of the end.

I just wonder if Carney would've made that kick? What was that definition of insanity? Something like making the same mistake over and over...(couldn't resist)

Re: What are the qualifications to be a "real fan"?

IMO...

What does it take to be a TRUE Saints fan? Well, it's a lot of things. I judge my status differently than some of the people on this site. I wish my first blog was still on here, I have to admit, it was pretty good.

Anyway, back to the point.

Being a Saints fan, a true Saints fan; is the love of this team no matter what. Yes, even after a cussing filled 3-13 season and the very next day you say, "We will be alright next year".

It's wearing Archies jersey when your 5 years old and hiding it when you 12 so your mom won't throw it away.

It's feeling the utmost joy going to see Archie, then your dad and uncle tell you that you are going to see Archie Bunker and not Archie Manning. (True story, it happened to me) Then your heartbreaks, but when you get there and you see your hero in real life you are hooked forever.

It's being truly sad when Buddy D passed away.

It's cussing at the T.V. while your wife is looking at you like your crazy.

It's looking at every Fluer de lis and your mind is geneticly programed to think New Orleans and Saints.

It's knowing that Gumbo just isn't a food...it's a Saint Bernard too.

It's creating a website for other mentally challenged people like you to come and talk about the Saints.

It is accepting the fact that if the Saints go 13-3 and lose in the playoffs....it's okay. They had a great year! We will get some guys in the draft and FA to help make us better next year.

It's saying, "NEVER AGAIN! "F" the SAINTS! I AM NEVER WATCHING ANOTHER GAME AGAIN!" Then comes August and your right back there just as happy as if they had won the SuperBowl, waiting for the first kick off.

It's believing that each year, is the year, we go all the way.

It's painting your 1977 Camero Gold with Black trim. (No I don't have it anymore. Engine blew up. Go figure.)

It's seeing the SuperDome made out of pennies.

and lastly:

It's sitting in the Dome for your very first game. In the upper deck. 7 years old. Looking around and seeing fans wearing grocery bags over their heads and asking your dad; "Dad, why are people wearing those bags?" "Because the Saints suck, son." "If they are so bad, then why do we like them?" "Because son. Just because."

Coming back here today, still pissed, and trying to rationalize what you are feeling with other diehards.

Re: What are the qualifications to be a "real fan"?

We're ok, Bogey. Had a nice time in New Orleans, good dinner, talked all the way, with kids gone elsewhere, during our 6 hour ride home.

Its a wake up call for the team and the fans to get up offa our butts.

But I think we're gonna be ok. Or we'll go down in flames trying.
We'll never forget this year.

Did you ever have to choose between one of the two Billy Joe's? If so, you're in.

wow did I just read jonathon sullivan lol. if were going there what about Fred Thomas aka the worst cornerback ever. Yea true fans remember times like those. Bottom line is if we win it all great. If we don't I'm pissed but i'm still in the stands next year. And when it does happen I know I stuck with my boys the whole way.

The Bears and Jay Cutler. Cutler looked like a PRO last night.

People who are stil on the bandwagon after the last two losses are quite possibly real fans.

For all you Houstonians that can not find Saints gear like I can not in the store. Make a trip to Harwin...Loads to be found:)

I scored a black LS T with louisiana on the front and big Fleur De Lis. On the back is a helmet in the middle with #9 and the rest of the helmets surrounding it with the numbers in them..

What are the criteria and qualifications to becoming a "real Saints fan"?

BTW, do you think it's hereditary? You know, some other addictions are inherited like alcohol and drug abuse. lol :drink:

Alcohol does help you become a real fan. It's what kept me going throughout the mid 80's, 90's especially the Ditka years.

i jumped on the saints bandwagon.....in 1992! i fell in love w/ the dome patrol.

what makes me a true fan? i've NEVER jumped off and have NEVER stopped loving them! even though i'm born and raised in florida, i've gone to a game every year since 99. i've seen them in tampa 3 or 4 times, twice in jax (once was preseason), once in mia (this year), and like 6 times in nola. (i'll be going to my 7th game in nola on the 16th!)
