Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
For those you complaining about the worthiness of this thread, I believe we can write General Mills, enclose 2 proof of purchase seals, and request a full refund. Huh?
Oh wait, you're not getting paid to read this stuff---- I forgot. my bad. So lets all find reasons to smile. Here, hold hands now and sing Seasons in the Sun. "We have joy we have fun.... Dont take me too seriously. Ok, I disagree about Jenkins = Jason David, Poydras, but I wont challenge your English Lit background or emotional stability. I just disagree. I'm not even sure you were asserting anything, but possibly raising a question, or discussion point--- which is why I dont believe in telling anyone their thread is this or that.*** Its a question that can be asked, and I think "naaa," Jenkins will be just fine. All questions are alright with me. I dont believe in the team goat concept, unless its a kicker. If the guy we believe is singlehandely holding us back is so bad, then why dont we replace him with another guy who came to training camp? Because he beat that guy out. I've seen team goats from Dave Waymer to Freddie Thomas to Jason David, and even Reggie--- who scores more TD's than anyone else besides Drew. We were convinced in 1984 that we would be in the Super Bowl for sure, if we just got rid of that damn Johnnie Poe. We also thought Ken Stabler was a savior. Some people think light bulbs & cow farts are heating up the World. As for Jenkins speed, I think his mental grasp of the game will close most of the gaps. You're just not going to play corner and not get burned, as any WR can blow by the secondary on any given play. But I believe if his speed really was so suspect, the ball would be coming his way every play he plays, and its not. I think we would have seen such shortcoming well before week 15. I've been wrong before, but I'm rather excited to see what kind of game MJ will bring after a little more experience. *** Bear in mind, I have a thread entitled All I Have to Say is WOOOOO!," which offers zero insight or analysis--- BFD! |
Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
Jenkins is definitely getting caught out of position and a couple of bad throws by opposing quarterbacks has kept this from getting exposed till now...
Was Jenkins a good pick?...yes Could we have used more of an impact at say Defensive Tackle or Defensive End?...sure... But he's a Saint, one of our Saints...even if he was a Buckeye which makes him a tad slow ; ); he's made some plays, including special teams that have been big plays to date... Jenkins was projected by many to play his career at Free Safety (the guy we have there now is not doing too too badly); so he's doing well contributing where there's a spot... We have fair defensive depth with the exception of Strong Safety (we need a starter) and Defensive Tackle (same) and Defensive End (same)... But the question is fair, but if you're going to blame... I blame the Executive of the Year for not signing enough Defensive Tackles... |

They lost 1 game. If you'd told ANY, and i mean ANY Saints fan in August that their team would be 13-1 at this point, they'd have been thrilled to death. Yes, you are right, they got their butts kicked, but even despite everything going wrong, they still had a realistic chance of driving down and getting a tied score with 2 minutes left. There's something to be said for the continued fight they showed. |

Man, old times. This is like an Aaron Brooks thread but with better avatars...

Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
It may very well be that MJ ends up at FS in the long run. With Porter and Greer locking down the CB positions, that doesn't seem like a bad thing, especially with Sharper getting long in the tooth.
In any event, he has a ton of positive attributes, not the least of which appear to be intelligence and character. The man has made some great plays, and I look forward to seeing him mature. |
Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
Jenkins is fine. You can see he has "juice" as Gruden calls it. He is a safety. His hips are stiff, it's not his speed because the guy can flat out fly. We are playing him until Greer comes back and Porter is back in fully. He will be the FS after Shaper leaves.

Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
He hasn't been burnt enough to be compared to David...yet. However, I think the fact that people are being hired off the street to play CB shows you what the staff thinks about his ability to play CB, and if he wants to stay in the NFL he better start thinking in terms of safety. Getting paid to play safety is better than not getting paid at all.

Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
how does getting beat deep prove that he is a better safety? if anything it proves otherwise
he plays well and does his job......the problem is that when he doesnt have safety help over the top he gets beat.....when we give the QB that much time anybody could get beat deep......the real issue is the pressure we are not putting on opposing QBs he is also a rookie.....you cant ask a rookie to cover the best receiver on a team and then blitz the house or not blitz anyone....either way the QB will still get a lot of time to make decisions because we havent figured how to blitz like we were earlier this year |
Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
I certainly hope the Saint's players don't start finger pointing like some of the people posting on this thread. IMO everyone needs to take a look in the mirror to see what he could have done better in that game and go from there.
2nd and 8 Homo throws to the left side pass is broken up by Porter, 3rd and 8 Homo passes to the right and completes for a 30 or 40 yard gain who was covering? Wasn't Jenkins, give the guy a break he is a rookie with alot left to learn |
Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
Ive just come to the conclusion that Jenkins will be our future free safety..Greer and Porter are our starting corners...and if it comes playoff time do you want Jenkins starting?..That would scare the bejeezus out of me..This is not a knock on Jenkins...the coaches im sure know whats up and they had to play him there..Lets just hope Greer and Porter stay healthy till the last second of the Supwerbowl! Im not gonna rag on him anymore..

I saw the same thing...but i thought in the Washington game that the sloppy field played into the slow recovery speed...but i saw it even worse in the Dallas game..i know some of what his problem is being a rookie..and hope it doesnt hurt us anymore..thats all im saying...Let him learn in the offseason..keep him in on special teams ..he excels there..and maybe nickel situations..Jabari cant get back soon enough... |
Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
MJ is looking in the backfield too much right now thinking he can catch up to the receiver. Well that's not going to happen in the NFL. He will have plenty of tape to look at in the off season and see his mistakes and he will be better next year.

Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
MJ reminds me of another CB. Chris Gamble of Carolina. The same thinks were said about him coming out of college and his first couple of years in the league. It turned out ok.

Re: Malcolm Jenkins=Jason David
Whew! I can't believe I actually had the stomach to finish this thread. There were some good pojnts made and some rather silly points made as well. What do you think about agreeing to disagree and keep things from getting personal? Anyway, Jenkins is still a rookie and has the potential to be a very good NFL player. It'll take a little time to sort out where. I believe that GW is very capable of making that decision.
