I honestly do not understand how everyone is picking the saints to be in 3 or 4 place in our division..do they think the saints are that bad or they think carolina and atlanta with out mike vick is that much better than the saints...The feeling i'm getting is that we are going to be worse than last year(9-7), which i don't understand our defesnse has to be better than last year we've brought in some good players ,so help me out here why does it seem everyone is so down on the saints??? I can't wait to the saints show up the so called experts!

jared -- I think the reason that most sports writers say they feel the Saints are going to have a bad season is because if the Saints have a good season -- then they can come back and say how \" Plesantly Suprised\" they are. They wouldn\'t be wrong now, just \"Pleasantly Surprised\"

As far as memebers on here I guess that\'s the way the feel because the defense was terrible last year and the defense did nothing in preseason to change their minds.

Many, it seems, predict a late season collapse. I have no idea where they come up with that idea. (Sarcasm) Sure it happened two years in a row, but that doesn\'t mean it\'ll happen 3 years straight.

Along with the collapses, they all think Tampa, Carolina and Atlanta will be back this year even better than last year. Most I\'ve seen that have us 3rd or 4th in the division, predict the W-L records within the division to be pretty close.

I figure our offense is even better this year adding a new TE and new Tackle. Aaron\'s shoulder is back 100% as well as Deuce\'s ankle. The Special teams are as good as last year. Defense \"Should\" be better, as it couldn\'t have gotten much worse. If the first part of the season last year wasn\'t a fluke, (which I don\'t believe it was), I\'d like to think we\'ll prove many of these folks wrong come December, with a record around the 10-6 mark.

I\'ll make it easy for the skeptics:

We were 9-7 last year, and 3 plays from being 12-4.

Offense: Better

Special teams: Best in the league, no question.

Defense: Better (Even if was exactly the same as last year\'s defense, our offense is improved enough to squeak out an extra win or 2)

Get used to the pessimism. It goes with the territory of being a Saints fan.

Its as frustrating as trying to convince somebody 2+2=4, not 5. :casstet:

Tweeky, now I remember you. You were Ditka\'s yes man when he said all we needed was a marquee RB and we\'d be in the Billy Joe Bowl. I can still remember the hype in this forum when Ditka took over the team and how many posters talked about how much better we\'d be, while others got the paper bags out.

Every year people in here talk about how much better we are than last year. Every year. For every pessimistic Saints fan out there, there is an equally obsessive optimistic.
For every positive point someone points out, there can be a negative point of the same magnitude.

Whether you choose to believe we\'re better or worse it has no bearing on what will play out in the season. But one person could be suprised in a good way and the other could be suprised in heartbreaking way when it\'s all over.

We\'ll be ok, as long as the injury bug doesn\'t get us to bad. I agree with most of the posts here. As far as the \"pros\" are concerned I think the downfalls the last 2 years keep them from putting the Saints very high on their list.

Just for the record....my post was not meant to be \"holier-than-thou\". Back in the old B&G forum in 99 I will admit I was openly pissed about trading up for Ricky Williams, but not for the obvious reason. I was quite upset we didn\'t draft MLB Andy Katzenmoyer from Ohio State, which in hindsight makes me very glad I was wrong about that one. We\'re all wrong sometimes.....except Billy of course. He\'s 0.000000001% right.

If we do flop, it won\'t be the 1st time my heart was crushed. I prefer to stay positive (yet grounded). There\'s nothing on paper that says we can\'t realistically be a 10-6 team.
On paper is all we have until Sunday.

I\'m a positive guy. I even had my blood type changed to B-Positive!
