8:06: Connor Barth's 47-yard field goal in overtime capped a stunning comeback by the Tampa Bay Bucs, who rallied from a 17-0 deficit to upset the Saints 20-17.
OVERTIME
0:05: Garrett Hartley shanked a 37-yard field goal wide left with 5 seconds left that would have given the Saints the win. We're going to overtime. Bucs have the momentum and will get the ball first.
2:25: Huge turn of events here. The Saints had a fourht-and-1 and elected to not go for it. They tried to draw Tampa Bay's punt return team offsides and looked like they did but officials ruled the Saints had jumped instead and penalized them 5 yards. Morstead then shanked his punt and Michael Spurlock returned it 77 yards for a TD. It's now tied at 17-all. The Saints had 17-0 lead in 2nd qtr
4:57: Charles Grant with the play of the day. He batted down a Josh Freeman pass on fourth-and-1 to give the ball back to the Saints. Tampa Bay was at the Saints' 19-yard line.
5:01: A huge turn of events here. Bucs coach Raheem Morris with the play of the day. Got a timeout right before the stop on fourth-and-1 by Jon Vilma. That was very close and Sean Payton argued vociferously with officials that Morris did not get the timeout in time.
13:14: The Bucs are officially back in it. They just drove 98 yards in 8 plays to make it 17-10 on a 23-yard TD run by Cadillac Williams. The Saints offense needs to answer. They have punted on three consecutive series.
FOURTH QUARTER
2:23: Pierre Thomas has bruised ribs and is out for the rest of the game. He was injured at the end of that long run in the first half when his face mask got pulled.
7:44: A really nice leaping interception by Tracy Porter in the end zone stopped a potential Bucs scoring drive. Tampa Bay had marched to the Saints' red zone. The pick was the 26th of the season by the Saints, tied for the NFL lead.
HALFTIME
0:00: A 34-yard field goal by Connor Barth on the final play of the half cut the Saints' lead to 17-3 at halftime. So far, the Saints have dominated on both sides of the ball. All in all, they couldn't have asked for a better scenario. They have a comfortable lead, get the ball to start the second half and can rest their starters early if they can get a quick score in the third quarter.
6:39: Garrett Hartley's 28-yard field goal makes it 17-0 Saints. The scoring drive covered 83 yards in 10 plays.
9:10: With 9 minutes left in the second quarter, the Saints have already rushed for more yards (66) than they did all last week (65) vs. Dallas.
SECOND QUARTER
1:32: It's 14-0 Saints after a beautiful 30-yard scoring strike from Brees to Meachem. They've already played "Stand Up & Get Crunked" twice over the Superdome P.A. system and we're still in the first quarter. Never a good sign for the opposing team at the Dome. The TD was set up by a nice play-action fake. See what happens when you have a running game? The play-action pass becomes deadly. The Saints' scoring drive was six plays, 51 yards, 2:59 time of possession.
4:45: Darren Sharper intercepts a bad overthrown pass by Tampa Bay's Josh Freeman and returns it 21 yards to the Saints' 49-yard line. With the return, Sharper set the NFL season record for return yards on interceptions with 376 yards. The old mark was 358 by Ed Reed of Baltimore in 2004.
6:47: Running game established. The Saints run six times for 44 yards in their opening drive, including the final 8 on a TD run by Pierre Thomas. He was untouched. The Saints averaged 8.3 yards on their nine-play, 75-yard scoring march.
9:40: Two straight runs to start the day. And a first down to boot. Good start. Then, after a nice short pass to Colston, an 8-yard run by Bell.
11:03: The Saints opened in a two-WR, two-TE set with Pierre Thomas at RB, a clear indication they are going to try to establish the run early.Stay tuned. We'll see if they stick with it.
11:16: The Saints forced the Bucs to punt on their opening drive. It's been awhile since that's happened. Slow starts have been a problem of late, especially on defense.
FIRST QUARTER
PREGAME
The Saints are back in black today -- all black uniforms, that is. There are a few lineup changed to be aware of. Rookie Jonathan Casillas is starting at weakside linebacker in place of Scott Shanle, who is out with a concussion. It will be Casillas' first career start. The Saints are missing some key players for this one. In addition to Shanle, Jeremy Shockey, Jabari Greer, Randall Gay and Lance Moore are on the in active list.
