Unfortunately, I\' starting to think we gave Carolina the wrong guy.

I won\'t take anything away from Jake. He was helped by a tremendous running game yesterday, and he also tossed some VERY ill advised passes...passes that would have had Whodat and \"08\" screaming for the backup if the back of his jersey said \"Brooks\". One of those ill advised \"almost\" interceptions would have cost his team the game had the Jacksonville DB not dropped the ball.

Having said that, I must also say that if not for Jake Carolina would surely have lost that game. We\'ll see how well he fares once the league gets a good look at him. Time will tell, and I hope he does well.

Again, we agree. Delhomme did make some dangerous throws yesterday. I believe that part of that stemmed from him playing with a \"I\'ve got nothing to lose\" mentality. I think he just came out slinging. I mean, they were down by 17 I think and the starter got yanked. He was tossing it around with wild abandon just like Brooks did way back in 2000 when Blake got hurt. And just like Brooks calmed down when he was named the starter for good, I think the same will happen with Delhomme. One note, when Brooks was playing like that, running around just trying to make any play he could, he certainly didn\'t have a 60% completion percentage very often... not comparing, just saying that Delhomme was still pretty efficient despite those couple of dangerous passes.

KFFL has learned the Carolina Panthers have named QB Jake Delhomme as their starting quarterback. He replaces QB Rodney Peete, who has been dropped to second string.

In my opinion, the \"Call of the Week\" was the decision by Panthers head coach John Fox to bench starting quarterback Rodney Peete in favor of Jake Delhomme at halftime after Peete led the team to four wins in the last five games last year and completed 58.5 percent of his passes. That\'s a hard call! But the pep talk Delhomme gave the team and the 24-point rally to beat the Jaguars was great.
The decision and Delhomme\'s performance inspired the team to go on and win the game 24-23. As one former Saints executive who was with Delhomme in New Orleans said to me last winter, \"If I had to start up a franchise, I\'d go get Delhomme off the Saints roster and build the thing around him.\"
Those words rang in my ears as I watched him usher in the Delhomme era in Carolina. When you consider what Denver paid for Jake Plummer and Chicago paid for Kordell Stewart, this kid is a bargain! With just two NFL starts in his career and neither one since 1999 in mop-up duty, he breathed life into this franchise instantly. He\'s a natural leader and his speech to the team as they hit the field with 30 minutes to play is the kind of stuff only star players can do.
You know I counted almost 10 teams that had questions about their quarterback situation before this weekend, and Carolina was not one of them. Yet, when coach Fox made the call to bench Peete after he went four of 10 for 19 yards in the first half, and Delhomme came in and went 12 of 20 and connected on three touchdown passes, he probably solved their quarterback situation for the long haul. What could be better on the first Sunday of the NFL season?

Alright, that was one 30 minutes of football. Brunell was 17 of 18 in the first half against a much feared Panthers defense. I have the distinct feeling Kirwan and some others - the paid folks, not posters on this board - who are now jumping on the bandwagon are going to eat their words at the end of the season.

Certainly the end of 2002 has left a bitter taste in my mouth as well as others . But one point could not be legitamately made til now , Haslett was wrong in assuming Delhomme could not go out and start 3 games , when Brooks was injured . Delhomme certainly had a better understanding of the offense in New Orleans , then he has in Carolina . And with the come from behind victory over Jacksonville in one half he has shown he has the ability to lead a team to victory .

Jake Delhomme , may never prove he is the greatest quarterback in the world .

Would Pro Bowl players questioning the coaches decisions be a locker room distraction ????

Quick to praise your boy Delhomme arent\' ya 08. How you figure he has proved he could win three games when he\'s only won one. I\'m not saying he can\'t. I\'m just wondering what kind of rediculos logic you\'re using here.

I don\'t think I need glasses at all. How has he proven he could win those games? He won one game. What if he bombs next week. I watched that whole game and Jake made some good throws but he made some terrible throws that almost cost the team the game. Again, I ask you how much does one game prove?
