It is a BRILLIANT move. The Karma and Mo Jo and Ju Ju will all be appeased with this move. Payton is playing even the intangibles, great coach.

Deuce doesn't need to play, just be on the team , on the sidelines.

I am a firm believer in Deuce McCallister. I think he will be playing again next season, and he will do well. I just hope he is still a Saint then. This guy deserves another chance. He has been a winner since he was at Ole Miss, and a class act as well. GEAUX DEUCE!!! I will be wearing his jersey tomorrow for good luck!

Deuce McAllister returns to New Orleans

Saints sign McAllister, make him honorary captain

Deuce McAllister will lead the New Orleans Saints into the playoffs, at least during introductions.

The Saints re-signed their popular all-time rusher on Friday with the intention of making him an honorary captain, but McAllister won't play in Saturday's divisional-round playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals, Saints coach Sean Payton said.

Payton said the Saints first discussed the idea of making McAllister an unofficial guest captain a couple weeks ago. When reserve defensive tackle Rodney Leisle hurt his knee and was unable to practice this week, Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis decided to make McAllister an official part of the team.

New Orleans Saints running back Pierre Thomas is listed as probable for Saturday's NFC Divisional playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals with injured ribs.

Thomas sat out the regular-season finale to rest the injury and fully participated in practice this week. Although, the surprise signing of longtime Saints running back Deuce McAllister earlier Friday may signal the team is worried about how many snaps Thomas will be able to take come game-time.

Also listed as probable are cornerback Malcolm Jenkins (hamstring), defensive end Bobby McCray (back) and wide receiver Lance Moore (hamstring).

Nissan Motor Acceptance Corp. knew Deuce McAllister was a football player - not a veteran of the car business - and did little to help his dealership succeed, the former New Orleans Saints running back claims in court records.

McAllister's attorneys made the allegation this week in a counterclaim to a federal lawsuit filed by NMAC, which seeks more than $1.5 million from McAllister and his company, Deuce McAllister Motors LLC., over the defunct dealership.

McAllister, 31, was a football star at the University of Mississippi and spent eight seasons as one of the Saints' most popular players before being released in February. He has invested heavily in his native Mississippi, including the Nissan business, a luxury car dealership and high-end real estate.

The New Orleans Saints placed fullback Heath Evans on injured reserve on Thursday and agreed to terms with fullback Kyle Eckel, team general manager Mickey Loomis announced.

Evans, a nine-year pro, went down with a season-ending knee injury in the Saints' 46-34 come-from-behind win at Miami last Sunday.

In his first season with New Orleans, Evans finishes 2009 with 10 catches for 70 yards and three total touchdowns, including a rushing score.

Better play over their last four games has the Carolina Panthers thinking they can get back into the playoff mix. A win over the undefeated New Orleans Saints this weekend would go a long way in validating those beliefs.

Carolina faces its toughest matchup of the season Sunday at the Superdome, where they will take on a New Orleans club that is aiming for its first-ever 8-0 start.

Despite minimal roster turnover, the Panthers have hardly looked like the club that went 12-4 last year, a season that included a pair of wins over the Saints and Carolina's seventh win a row at the Superdome.

The New Orleans Saints have brought back a familiar face, re-signing running back Deuce McAllister just a day before the team's NFC Divisional Playoff game against Arizona.

McAllister was released by the Saints last February, leaving with franchise records of 6,096 rushing yards and 55 total touchdowns in 97 regular-season games from 2001-08.

"I'm speechless," McAllister was quoted as saying on the team's website. "I don't know that there are words to describe this feeling. I do know that we have some unfinished business that we started a few years ago and we want to finish the deal."

McAllister was part of the Saints team that went to the NFC Championship Game after the 2006 season. He was bothered by injuries over his final two seasons with the team and lost playing time with the emergence of both Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas.

Thomas has been bothered by a rib injury, but is listed as probable for Saturday's playoff game.

McAllister played in 13 games -- six starts -- in 2008, rushing for 418 yards and five touchdowns while adding 18 receptions for 128 yards and another score. His 27 career 100-yard games are also the most in club history and he is the only Saint to rush for 1,000 yards in a season four times.

"Deuce McAllister has always embodied the spirit of the New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans," said Saints head coach Sean Payton. "We're excited to have him back with the team and to have him lead us out on to the field tomorrow."

The Saints opened a roster spot by placing defensive tackle Rodney Leisle on injured reserve because of a knee injury.

Look, I love this signing. He wont see the field this week but imagine how the team and the crowd is going to react seeing him back in a Saints uniform. This is a motovation tool and it will work wonders. I see us going up big early now.
As for him playing; I see him hitting the field next week. Like I said earlier: a motovation factor. Seeing him for the first time on the field against the Vikings will give us another boost. Perfect move by the front office to give us that extra boost pushing us to the super bowl.

I think it is a great move. He's taking the spot of an injured player. Going to be inactive, so in reality he's not taking any spot! It will blow the roof off the dome when DUECE leads the boys on the field! DOME SWEET DOME!!!
A tribute to a great Saint who's great career ended sadly! WHO DAT!

Duece may be so broke that a field pass is the only way he's going to see the game.
