Alright my friend - best places to go and not eat "touristy" crap food and get shafted on drinks. You'll be in the mix of everything going on but be able to avoid a generic experience.
Good luck and GEAUX SAINTS!! Breakfast: Stanley in the French quarter at lafayette square $$ (awesome food - great view) Cafe Du Monde $ (you've gotta have beignets and coffee) Lunch: Mothers $$ (probably a line around the block, but the Debris Sandwich is RAD) Yo mammas - Fr quarter $ (awesome burger selection) Port of Call $ (What Yo Mammas is now, they were 10 years ago before they started to slack) Mr. B's Bistro $$ - Best BBQ Shrimp in town (real new orleans style) Bourbon House $$ - Great oysters and located at the bottom of your hotel Dinner: Cochon $$ NOLA $$$ (Emeril's good restaurant) Herbsaint $$$ Domenica in Hotel Roosevelt $$$ Drinks: Hotel Monteleone - The Carousel Bar $$ (yes it rotates) $$ (down from your hotel) Lucy's $ (packed w Saints fans before game and short walk to Dome) Walk up Poydras to the game and you'll see kids selling canned and bottled beers for $3 and plenty of bars w mixed drinks. Re: 1st time in new orleans
I've been there plenty of times and the last time I was there I had 3 different guys on 3 different streets ask me that same thing. I was dressed in jeans and a t shirt once, dress pants and a collared shirt the next, and full out Saints gear the third. I was blown away by this statement and for the life of me, I can't figure out what the hook is. I even asked around with the local bartenders and waiters and no one gave me a straight answer. Can someone please tell me how this ends? Are they trying to bait you into saying your from out of town? Trying to get a buck off you? Trying to sell you drugs? By NO means did I look like I was from out of town, I looked like a total local. WTF? I'm still perplexed about this one! |

Re: 1st time in new orleans
I was in NO in 2003 last. Shoes guy didn't like it when my reply was "the $10 is in my pocket with some extra, you just have to try to get it out".
