My letter to the New Orleans Saints
Dear New Orleans Saints,
First, I would like to say, I applaud you. You fought game in and game out through this season. You showed your resiliency numerous times over the season by coming back in games when Saints' teams of the past would have just lied down. Your "never say die" mentality was what kept your spirit strong. You have shown us, the fans, that this is not the same team that we have ever witnessed before. You indeed are a team of destiny. Secondly, I commend you. You took criticism and disrespect from the media all season. You were repeatedly bombarded with skeptics who said that you were overrated, lucky, or not that good. You showed thick skin against all of the critics and proved every single doubter wrong. You are are not just a good team, you are exceptional. You are champions. Last, but certainly not least, I thank you. I thank you for the most amazing ride that Saints' fans have ever experienced. I thank you for the thrills and excitement each game you played. I thank you for the passion that you brought forth all season that did nothing but carry over to the rest of us who stuck with you through thick and thin. I thank you for the confidence you displayed religiously that gave us a growing confidence that this team is something special. You are ambassadors to the city of New Orleans, but it does not stop there. You are also ambassadors to this entire state and New Orleans Saints' fans everywhere, no matter where we may reside. 2005 was a year full of tears through all of the devastation that came with Hurricane Katrina, but 2006 gave us a glimmer of hope. 2009 gave us tears, as well. Tears of joy. You have done so much for our spirits and our faith in this team that I do not know if you could ever fathom completely. Honestly, I do not know if we can completely fathom what we have experienced this year. We have never been in this position before and it is almost surreal. We may not all be at the Super Bowl to cheer you on, but you better believe that we will be cheering like we never have before. There is one more game to play. Keep that confidence, that swagger, and that fighting spirit that you have shown all season when you play the Colts for the Lombardi Trophy. We know you can do it. We know you can win. Bring home a Super Bowl victory to the city of New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, and the entire Who Dat Nation. Bless our boys! Sincerely, A die-hard member of the Who Dat Nation. |
