i find it odd that a message board on a sports team fan site is much quieter after the team wins than when it loses

what\'s up with you guys? so billy and saintfan proved you guys wrong on some stuff, you should be happy OUR team won

Let's hear it for Brooks and the Defense.

Sorry about taking a while to post, but I just got back to Texas from New Orleans. I watched the first half and listened to Jim and Hokie call the second half on 870.

I\'ll happily admit that Brooks and the D both showed marked improvement over last week\'s game, especially in the 2nd half. Duece pounded it out as usual and Horn made some nice catches and runs after the receptions. Although he wasn\'t perfect, Ambrose really contributed today, as did Whitehead. And I certainly didn\'t miss Gowin the way Berger had our kicking game going today either. But most surprising was the fact that Pathon stepped up and some key recptions and the lost sheep -- Bellamy -- was a force to be reckoned with on defense today (could the lame walking and the blind seeing be far behind).

Still, the real stars of today\'s game in my opinion was the entire defense. They pressured Carr all day, shut down the running game and most of Carr\'s passing game, forced turnovers and gave us the momentum we needed to cruise to a much needed home victory (especially sweet since Tampa and Atlanta lost).

All in all, we looked like a different, very much improved team. Different approach, more drive, better motivation and execution, far fewer mistakes (except stupid penalties) and definitely better coaching.

Maybe someone put the fear of God into the right people or maybe everything just clicked. Either way, I just hope we can expect this kind of play to continue as our schedule gets tougher.

Billy, don\'t take this the wrong way and think that now I believe everything is hunky dorey and the SAINTS have no problems. They still do. They had a good game today and played much closer to their potential. Brooks did too. But I still need to see some consistancy before I agree with you that Brooks is \'da man\'. Only time will tell.

Too funny ........

Saints were 9 point favorites even after the beating they took in Seattle and now every poster that posted something negative is wrong ????

Brooks probably got a great little pep talk at half time , sad part is he needed one .......

Texans are a speed bump , not a hill or even a mountain of a team ......Saints should beat the below .500 teams with the pro bowl talent they have ....

Reality Check

The Saints scored 24 unanswered points and thwarted the Texans\' ground game en route to a 31-10 win at the Superdome Sunday. Recap the game at Gameday Central.

Ok, There are about 4 threads on fans giving there assesment so I guess I\'ll pick this one. Yes it was a good win. While I am not a pessimist, dont look into the 31 points to happen everyweek. The last TD by the Def is basically a product of Houston\'s urgency to get ahead. But I do give props to the Def for making the play when they needed to. Now, David Carr is in NO WAY a below average QB, this guy made smart plays almost the whole game. He ditched the ball when he could, we just finally started to catch up with him in the second half. And how bout that move on Bellamy!! As far as AB, I think he played better, but I would still like to see more emotion from him during the game, hell, even the announcers were saying it. If they beat the Titans, then I will start believe that \"Hey, maybe they can make the playoffs\".

Go Saints

Brooks didn\'t smile all day.Good job!Way to keep your focus after being down 10-7 at the half.Hats off to Deuce, just keep on truckin and stay healthy.Dosen\'t it feel great to see a TE who is a scoring threat in the red zone?Nice job Conwell!we need to get Stallworth and Pathon more involved in the game.We also have yet to use the two TE set which was a favorite of McCarthy\'s at one time. This offense will only get better with time and repetition.McCarthy hasn\'t even begun to tap into that thick playbook of his.

On defense we\'re banged up worse than a car in a demolition derby! Now we\'re going to see what kind of character these guys have.I believe someone,or a couple of guys will step up and surprise some folks.Bellamy\'s name keeps coming up in the leading the team in tackles category.I guess he\'s out to prove something.Whitehead brings some heat!Let\'s just hope he can continue to do that for the next ten weeks.Haslett and Venturi have got to challenge this linebacking corps so that they will play with a chip on their shoulder. No matter which three are in on any given play,they\'ve got to be nasty.Roger knight may be one of those surprises I was talking about. You never know what a player can do until he gets to play in a game.Ambrose and Thomas will be just fine together.Defense will continue to improve.Anytime you get young guys riled up and make them have to prove themselves it only brings out the best in them.

The coaching seems to be getting better.Let\'s hope this continues as well.Venturi actually looked like somebody stuck some ceyenne pepper up his butt.Did yall see him jumping around on the sideline?Haslett was actually being assertive with his coaching staff also.McCarthy seemed like he was taking alot of input from the players when putting a series together.Coaches have to lead by example .If you want your players to play with fire then you have to coach with emotion.Keep it up guys, and continue to find ways to keep this team motivated and focused.

See yall at the dome on sunday !

I am a little amused here. I was one of the first people to say that this was a good win, and imporant b/c we gained momentum and played up to par for the first time this season. Of course, that leads Billy to go on the attack...

I also said that the Titans are our next real test after getting destroyed by our first real test - the Seahawks. What\'s interesting though, is that I hear people saying that they think this is a playoff team if we beat the Titans in week 3.

Have you guys not been watching Saints football for the past three seasons? Last year didn\'t we beat five playoff teams in the first 8 weeks? Weren\'t we 7-2 at one point? If you guys wanna go ahead and believe, then do so. To me, these games are important b/c we need them to be within striking distance in the second half of the season... BUT, the games that I will really use to judge this team don\'t start until at least week 9. Let\'s not forget how long this season is.

WhoDat -- I am not and will not single you out because it\'s not justified. All I\'m saying is that the folks that were indicating the season is a lost cause were wrong. If you\'re not in that group then I\'m not talking to you. OK? Really, I\'m not talking to you. Go back and read some of the stuff that was said and you\'ll know who or what I\'m talking about.

Re-posted from yesterday:

I can pass out praise when it is warranted. AB played well in the second half and I thought he showed some real poise today. I still cannot excuse the first half and I have to keep beating the consistency drum. We have to be consistent to even start thinking about the playoffs, and THAT is our ultimate goal. A game won or a game lost is just that. Just looking at our performance today shows us the absolute definition of lack of consistency. First half=pop-warner practice squad; second half=pro-bowlesque super power.

Our defense was inspired today. I can\'t explain why suddenly Jay Bellamy was able to tackle (did you see him today, wow!), and Whitehead was able to rush the QB effectively. I won\'t look the gift-horse in the mouth. Heck, the zebras gave the Texans 7 points today (pass interference?! you gotta be @#&&ing me! And what\'s up with that ball spot?) I\'ll just say that if our defense can play at least to that level every week, we are in much better shape than I have been saying we are.

Next week is the Titans. I hope the momentum of this week can carry us into next, I\'ll start crowing about how good the Saints are if we beat them.
