Ft. Lauderdale Say's to Who Dats: Come here instead of Miami to party!
While the much larger Miami may be seen as more of a tourist destination for Who Dats traveling down for the big game, officials in Ft. Lauderdale are trying to entice the Who Dat nation to spend a few dollars in their area.
Convention and tourism bureau spokesman Alfredo Gonzales says there are still many hotel rooms available in Ft. Lauderdale not far from the stadium. He also says that while the two metro areas are partners in tourism, the lower crime rate in Ft. Lauderdale might make for a more relaxed visit for Saints fans. Much has been made of the ban on tailgating near the stadium, and of the ban on open containers in Miami. Years ago, Ft. Lauderdale cracked down on outdoor drinking, mostly to deter a reputation as a wild Spring Break town. Now, Gonzales says his city has relaxed open-container laws for streets near the beach for the duration of the Super Bowl weekend.
