A league source indicated Monday that the New Orleans Saints aren't planning to use the franchise tag on free agent safety Darren Sharper. But General Manager Mickey Loomis has given no indication yet what his intentions are.
The deadline for designating franchise and transition players is Thursday. The Saints would have to offer Sharper, 34, a one-year deal worth $6.455 million to lock him up. Or they could decide to skip the franchise tag and negotiate a new deal with him or let him leave for another team in free agency. Sharper said last week that he wants to come back to the Saints, but he would prefer to reach a long-term agreement. READ FULL ARTICLE HERE! Last edited by Saintswrath; 05-05-2010 at 06:31 PM.. |

Remember when the Saints played the VyQueens Darren called them out? You know who I want. Can you imagine if the Saints don't lock down a deal with Sharper, he'd be saying that about US next season? Two words. No brainer. He is a keeper. I hope he retires a Saint. |

I believe that Loomis has the big picture in his mind and knows what needs to be done. I have faith in the FO working with Payton to get things done. Sharper Knows that he is in the perfect system here and I doubt that he will want to leave a great fit to go to a team that won't use him effectively. There is a distinct possibility that he could go elsewhere but Loomis knows what he's doing. I believe they already have a deal worked out.

Sharper should be given a nice long contract to retire as a Saint, I mean look at what he has done for our secondary; do we want to have the "what if " thought in the back of our minds next season if we let him go, I say no keep the league leading interceptor in black and gold!!!!!

I wonder how much difference a ring makes when it comes to a million dollar difference in salary to these players nowadays. I would think that it varies from player to player.
To clarify the question...will a ring make it easier for a player to opt for a new team and more money? |

Look Sharper nor anyone else should be surprised by this. Sharper wasn't going to be signed by anyone else and yes he did have a good year but he may only have a year or 2 left tops playing at last years level. I'm sure they're trying to work on a new contract for him and I would hate to see him decline and try to sign on with another team and not get any better offers, then he would burn the bridge.
