Re: Saints shopping some RFA's
Strief has become a valuable chess piece for Payton and is used in multiple sets and positions so I don't see him going anywhere. Brown is well known by fans for his holding calls and false starts. Bushrod was was adequate in his first year as a starter, but was he good enough to supplant Brown?

he needed way too much help to have a good season bushrod had a terrible year and even when he got help he still got beat often......thats a terrible year and im confident that the coaching staff and front office knows this as well oh and you dont cut your losses if the loss is a pro bowl LT that gets 5 penalties a year and helps make drew brees the least sacked QB in the league |
Re: Saints shopping some RFA's
I think alot of fans think Bushrod was sub-standard because we needed to provide some doubles and chip blocks to help him out. Frankly I think he is about average in the list of starting LT around the league and would have been an upgrade for some teams or at least equal to who they had. Top 5 LT's don't come around all that often. I don't even think of Brown as one although he is a few steps better than Bushrod on their best days.
Bushrod is serviceable and performed adequately. He didn't have a terrible year, he had a couple of off games but overall he overachieved expectations of many. No need to get down on the guy. I think we keep him and Streif (as he can back up numerous positions and is our jumbo package blocker). Brown can be moved. I'd be happy if we saw a low 2nd rounder for him. Consider what we gave up to get Vilma and that approximates his value as a FA. We're not getting a 1st for him. |

i would hate to see the saints let him go because i truely feel they are smart enough to keep him but if we really wanted to deal him i couldnt see the saints struggling to find a trade partner for a future 1st rounder if the tackle they wanted is gone by the time they pick |
Re: Saints shopping some RFA's
J. Brown when healthy is one of the best LTs in the game.
Bushrod is an outstanding young tackle and would start for half of the teams in league. Saying that he had a terrible year is ridiculous. Same for Strief. Stinchcomb is a first team Pro-Bowler. Keep them all and count yourself lucky to have them. |

he got a few holding calls and false starts but most of the time he just let the DE go completely and hit drew some people say he did well in run blocking but he didnt do that very well either. i remember earlier in the year mike bell fumbled in the backfield almost immediately after he took the handoff......he fumbled because he got hit by a defensive lineman that shouldve been blocked by bushrod its not ridiculous to say bushrod had a terrible year because he did. we won the super bowl with him so obviously hes good right? no we didnt win the super bowl because of bushrod but i'll tell you that we did lose the dallas game because of bushrod(and payton)......now tell me im wrong i was very disappointed in not only bushrod, but sean payton for keeping him in the starting position for the entire season rather than letting strief play more luckily he is not a starter or we would be addressing LT in the draft this year long before we drafted any kind of defensive player |
