Re: NFL overtime change long overdue
The Saints were the darling of the NFL this year. Almost everyone who did not have a rooting interest for another team wanted the Saints to win the Super Bowl.
I'm just curious. Why does it make people feel better to believe everyone is against their team and wants to see them lose when, in the Saints' case, it is completely untrue? The NFL changed the overtime rule because the team that wins the coin toss wins the game more than two-thirds of the time under the current rules. Before the kickoff was moved back to the 30, teams that won the coin toss won slightly less than half of the time. The Saints-Vikings game was the impetus for a change that has been a long time coming. If the Saints had lost in the exact same manner, the rule would have been changed, too. |
