The NFL is expected to announce its schedule next week, and the biggest blockbuster could come in the first game of the year.

The Saints, as defending Super Bowl champions, are guaranteed to play host to NBC’s season-opening Thursday night tilt on Sept. 9. If the schedule-makers have any common sense, they absolutely, positively will make the Minnesota Vikings the opponent.

Seriously, this should be an easier decision than the Saints bringing back safety Darren Sharper for their title defense. It should be more automatic than a Drew Brees touchdown pass against the Detroit Lions.

What’s not to like about a quick rematch of an NFC Championship Game that went to overtime?

The alternatives are mostly awful. Aside from Minnesota, New Orleans' Superdome opponents will be Carolina, Tampa Bay and Atlanta from the NFC South, Seattle and St. Louis from the NFC West and Pittsburgh and Cleveland from the AFC North.

Forget about a national TV opener against Tampa Bay, Seattle, St. Louis and Cleveland, four teams that combined to go 14-50 last year. NBC executives would nuke the NFL official responsible for that travesty.

Good. I would like nothing better than for the Vikings to be in the building when the banner droppeed. I know some of you want the Falcons to have that honor, but it was the Vikings who were a FG away from going to the SB.

I love me some Vikings' tears. Plus, I want to crush them to start the season.

*scenario* Ben Rapesomeberger gets suspended for the first lets say 4 games... Farve sits on the porch with his Grand Son. Where is the enticing season opener then because I predict both of these things will happen?

we already know it isn't Pitt because conflicts with the schedule mean the Steelers will be on the road weeks 2-3, so the opener would give them 3 road games to open the season

Ok so the only viable opener is Minnesota but how does Brett Not returning affct the draw of that game?

ZERO

It's the first game of the year, national TV. The world will be watching. However, if Brenda is back, the world will actually care.

I'm with ya there Falconhater. I predicted yesterday in another thread, that if Minni plays the Saints for the season opener, Favre would retire (again) this spring. It took him a full week to half-a** recover from the a** woopin we put on him in the NFCCG. It took him two days just to get out of bed. LOL. I just don't think he wants to go through another brittle bone crunching, star seeing, Geritol taking season. I may be wrong, but I think we gave him his retirement party on January 21st.

If we do play them in the opener, I really hope we put Favre in a Hoveround. I loved all the Vikings crying after the NFCCG.
