First-round options for the Saints
First-round options for the Saints
Mike Detillier When the New Orleans Saints select 32nd overall in the first round of the 2010 draft on Thursday, there will be a host of options for them to look at. Here is my opinion on the possible players for the Saints late in the first round. 1. Sean Weatherspoon, Outside Linebacker, Missouri Weatherspoon would be a perfect fit for the Saints defense, but it is highly unlikely the two-time All-Big 12 Conference first-team selection will still be on the board. Weatherspoon is a terrific athlete with excellent foot speed and outstanding instincts. He also excels in pass coverage situations and has shown the knack for making big plays. He has also registered 406 tackles (43 1/2 tackles for losses) on a middle of the road defense at Missouri. If he is still on the board at 32, the Saints will race up to bring his name on the card, but with teams like the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and Indianapolis Colts all looking for linebacker help, I don’t think he will be available at 32. 2. Everson Griffen, Outside Linebacker/Defensive end, USC Griffen was one of the most highly-touted defensive end prospects in the nation coming out of high school, but he never really played at an elite level at USC. At times, Griffen flashed big-time pass-rush skills and the ability to dominate, as in the Notre Dame versus USC game, but he was never a dominating player at the college level. Re: First-round options for the Saints
I won't be upset if we take a LBer in the first round, but we really need a strong DT.
