Re: Patrick Robinson
ok. maybe i put one too many "o's" on that "sooooo." i mean to say we're very deep in the secondary now. you also forgot gay (who im not crazy about) and vaughn. and of course, jenkins is still a corner.
i feel robinson is a guy who can start in the nickel, or fill in nicely IF (i dont wanna say when) porter or greer go down. |

Re: Patrick Robinson
I know I said WHO? WHERE? when the Saints drafted a guy named Tracy Porter out of Indiana with the 40th pick in Round 2 of the 2008 draft. How did that pick work out for us?
This kid was picked in pretty much the same range, which leads me to believe that Loomis and Payton see him as a Porter clone. Porter - 5'11" 186 lbs 23 years old. Patrick Robinson - 5'11 1/4" 190 lbs 22 years old. |

I have also said from the day we drafted Malcolm Jenkins that he is a FS not a corner because he lacks elite speed. I think we just upgraded two spots with one pick.

Re: Patrick Robinson
In this league it is seldom teams have the luxury of having a great pass rush as well as a blanket secondary. The two schools of thought are you can either get pressure with 4 and support a suspect coverage unit or you can man up in the secondary and blitz to achieve the pressure. I think that is the focus of Gregg Williams' scheme and that makes this pick make sense.
I knew this pick would be love/hate no matter who we took. All fans have different thoughts on the biggest need. I think the Saints found a pretty raw and athletic guy who they think they can turn into a solid tool for the secondary. We really were exposed last year when Porter and Greer went down. And I fully agree this is already the best and deepest secondary in the history of the team. It is much easier to find linebackers who can attack the passer and stop the run now. A great secondary can offset linebackers who are liabilities in coverage and can be allowed to focus forward only. I am more than okay with the selection. Had we taken a WR or TE I'd be much upset. |
