I am giving it a C. I was happy with the TE and Woods pick. However, I was not jumping up and down about the picks. Did not like the QB pick. There had to be a LB out there or a DE we could have taken in that spot.

I hope I am wrong and these guys turn out to be gems.

I'm not crazy about the QB pick, but now is about when we look at QB projects that will take 3 or 4 years to develop.

A 7th rounder is a tad much. I think we could have nabbed him as an UDFA.

But the rest of the draft was rock solid.

Re: Grade our draft

There is no doubt that the Saints drafted excellent players from the 32 position. Our early picks should all have been gone before we chose them, sometimes long before we chose them. We have real needs to fill, though, and we left our most glaring defensive holes wide open. If our team building were to stop here, I would call this draft a C. But I really doubt that it will stop here.

I think these were solid picks, and Im still holding out hope that an impact player on D can be picked up by trade. I gave it a C since it seemed the value was on the board at positions other than pressing needs.

Two can play that game... So are you saying our Punter is more important than Jonathan Vilma?

you vastly underestimate the importance of a good punter

just because they see the field less than other players does not make them less important

if anything it makes their job that much harder

drew gets 30 to 40 opportunities a game to do his job correctly

moorstead and hartley only get a handful of chances

especially for a defense that doesnt stop anybody and feeds off turnovers, making the other team drive the entire field is a huge deal

I give this draft a C. Only because I didn't see them as need positions and I didn't know diddlyu poo about any of them.

Yeah, that's why the 1st 3 or 4 rounds of every NFL draft is chock full of teams taking punters. :whatever:

first 3 or 4 rounds arent chock full of centers or guards either but they are crucial to the success of teams

punters are very important to how a game turns out.....they dont make tackles or score points most of the time but in a game of inches, a guy who can punt the ball 50 yards in the air with a hangtime of 5 seconds is a stud and helps teams win

Ill give er a C. I mean we are the Super Bowl defending champs so its hard to pick up good players when you are picking last.

Re: Grade our draft

The way I see it we got the 5th best CB, 7th best OT, 4th best TE, 13th best DT, 3rd best C, and 15th best QB. To me, that carries a C grade, but the key with these guys is potential. Robinson, Brown, and Graham have tremendous upsides to them. As such, I would say B to B- overall.

Depends on which site you reference.

NFL Draftscout (CBS Sports) has them listed a bit different...

5th best CB (rd 1-2) Taken last in the 1st
5th Best OT (rd 1-2) Taken last in the 2nd
3rd best TE (rd 2-3) Taken last in the 3rd
11th best DT (rd 3) Taken 25th in the 4th
2nd best OC (rd 3-4) Taken 27th in the 5th

All but Robinson was taken nearly a full round after their projection

That has A written all over it.

Our foundation is still strong. We just need new doors and windows or a re-do of the kitchen: new cabinets and countertop. I think it will be difficult to match the way the ball bounced for us last season. We will have lots of new talent to go along with our returning and improving veterens. Should be another exciting run for the gold. Once again, our season will depend on how the defense is able to help us, on the few occasions that our offense is not hitting on all cylinders.

Re: Grade our draft

Good draft, especially in the later rounds. I still don't like the TE pick due to his minimal playing experience and the Saints defensive needs but I'd give the Saints a B.

Thing is, the Saints have scouts and a lot of people working together when drafting and the organization knows their needs much better than any of us do. Admittedly, some of the picks that were made last week bugged me but after consideration and a little research I see the reasons for those picks.

I'm willing to eat crow if the TE turns out to be all world in the future.

No site referencing, just my own opinions as to the prospect ranks. And again the projections you are going off of are going to vary with different draft expert sites that you reference. I voted B and cant say A, just because of the players we selected, as a whole seem more like high potential picks rather than proven players. Brown only has 2 years starting on the line, Graham has 1 year of college ball, Woods is a 1 year starter without much production from a stats view, Robinson only had 7 picks in 2.5 years starting and showed inconsistency.

I think if all picks live up to their potential 100%, you have a high level man to man corner, bookend left tackle, the next Antonio Gates, a starting DT and starting C. If that happens, A+, but Ill go with B right after.

I don't see how anyone can argue that Moorestead was not a great pick.He helped us win games last year.

So did Jo-Lonn Dunbar, Courtney Roby, Jason Kyle, Troy Evans, Pierson Prieloux, and Chris Reis, are they worth two picks in the NFL draft?

probably not.I think Moorestead was worth it though.I just don't think those two picks really cost us anything.

And thats why its an opinion. Its my opinion it was too much. Just because he looks like a promising young punter doesn't mean a punter is worth two picks in a draft where you only have 2 picks.

There is a bit of satisfaction that the 5th we gave up ended up being the last pick in that round. That was a bonus that cushions the blow quite a bit.

I also take issue with those that say since we won the Superbowl, no decision should be questioned, and then they question numerous other decisions this team makes.

I love how most of these threads go from innocent football discussions to verbal sucker punches. *sarcasm*

I gave the team a B. I think we neglected to fill the holes in our defense. I'm not doubting the ability of the FO, I just think we should have gone after more defensive players.

On another note, NFL Network did their "grading" of our division. They gave us a D+. Bucs got a B, Falcons got a C and Panthers got a D+.

Wow, the Bucs got a B?

Probably because they drafted a Punter in the 6th with one of their NINE picks. :whatever:

I'm sure it does, and anyone who grades a draft based on meeting or not meeting team needs is a moron.
