LB Clint Ingram - UPDATE: Now a Saint.

1 Attachment(s)
Recently, plenty of players have been signing their restricted free agency tenders. Now, one team has decided to go in the other direction.

The Jaguars have withdrawn the offer given previously to linebacker Clint Ingram, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Ingram recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. He had been offered a one-year, $1.266 million contract.

The Jaguars drafted four defensive lineman over the weekend, but no linebackers. (But, as Rosenthal has reminded me, they traded for former Raiders stalwart Kirk Morrison -- which should have prompted Ingram to immediately ink his tender.)

A four-year veteran, Ingram started 12 games in 2009. He's now free to sign with any team.

I hear Clint is scheduled to come in and visit with the Saints soon. I think it's better than 50/50 that we sign this guy.

It makes a lot of sense as Greg Williams is very familiar with his capabilities.

Clint Ingram | Linebacker
TEAM: Jacksonville Jaguars
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'2' / 238
DOB: 3/21/1983
AGE: 27
COLLEGE: Oklahoma
CONTRACT INFO: 2010: Free Agent

The Jaguars withdrew their restricted free agent tender to LB Clint Ingram, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Ingram has started lots of games over the last four years, but was a disappointment of late. Even though he plays a different linebacker position, his job was essentially taken by Kirk Morrison over draft weekend. Look for Ingram to land with the Saints and old defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

I would rather Henderson...he would make our current LBs look a lot better..

We already have Ayodele, Hargrove, Ellis, Woods, & Pressley under contract. With 5 DT's on the roster you can pretty much rule out Henderson. I'm sure we still have people that think we are trading Jammal Brown for Albert Haynesworth.

I think we all need to prepare ourselves for another year of 35-28 football games, where we give up 100-150 yds per game on the ground. It may not be everyone's favorite way to win a football game, but you can't say it isn't effective. We did go 13-3 and win the division, conference, and Superbowl with that style of play.

I'll agree with that. He immediately becomes our 2nd best DT, and more importantly, is a perfect fit to play beside Ellis.

The ONLY question is how much gas is left in that tank.

Does anyone still use presses?

Anyway, Gregg Williams is very familiar with Henderson, so we'll find out shortly if he's worth bringing in.

Jeff Duncan doesnt think so ..what does he know...lol

Per his Twitter Account

No need. Saints already have 5 DTs: Ayodele, Hargrove, Ellis, Woods, Pressley. @Ross_s_cfc So you dont see john henderson as a possibilty ?

Re: LB Clint Ingram

I respectfully disagree. I don't think he visits and I think Hargrove is more of a playmaker for us than Henderson would be. He's not the same player he used to be. I actually think Ayodele is a very solid NT for us and that Ellis is going to make the jump from good to great this year.

Hargroves stats from 2009

SPLIT TOT SOLO AST SACK STF STFY FF BK INT YDS AVG LNG TD PD
2009 42 32 10 5.0 3 9 1 0 0 0 0.0 0 0 3

Hendersons stats from 2009

G GS Comb Total Ast Sck SFTY PDef Int Yds Avg Lng TDs FF
2009 15 15 36 26 10 3.0 3 0.0 2

These stats look eerily similar don't they?

Exacty...thats why he should start next to Ellis and Hargrove can slide over to RDE..

Both. The Jags play LOLB and ROLB. The LB's don't switch between strong and weak sides. So, depending upon the offensive alignment Ingram was required to play either/both.

Who are you wanting to cut on the DL? I'm assuming Pressley?

Re: LB Clint Ingram

The Saints won the Super Bowl but there are two positions than can use an upgrade. Defensive tackle and Linebacker. Ellis is the best DT and he's not shown anything special so far. And since Brees is on the cover of Madden, a backup QB that's actually taken a snap in an NFL game would be nice.

strato,

Notwithstanding the DT stats provided;

According to legend; "DTs stats dont matter as much as the LBs behind them......henderson clogs holes and eats double teams....he doesnt make a lot of plays but he creates a lot of plays for everybody else"

So here are some LB stats to consider;

Player Tackles, Sacks, Forced Fumbles, Int
D. Smith 107, 1.5, 3, 1
J. Durant 98, 1, 1, 1
C. Ingram52, 1, 1, 0
257, 3.5, 5, 2

S. Shanle 69 0 0 2
J. Vilma 110 2 0 3
S. Fujita 58 1 2 0
237 3 2 5

You can draw your own conclusion, but to me, not much difference.

I see your point..i think Henderson would clog the middle thats what we need so the LBs can make plays..Ingram isnt the answer..we have 3 ingrams on the roster already...we need DT..thats what would stop the bleeding ..JMTC

Not at this price and his production. You can see why the Jags wanted to release him!

"Henderson had two years and $11 million remaining on his contract, and Jacksonville felt more comfortable not paying it and relying on its rookies."

there saying Ingram had knee surgery, could be why his production dropped, maybe a good lb pick up.

I think you are right, but at this point I am unsure. Especially after an exchange with another Saints fan around these parts who thinks Loomis, Payton, and Williams are bumbling fools that do not know what they are doing! lololololol

Do you happen to have a 33mm projector you could loan the Saints FO?

And I doubt anyone else offers him that. I'll bet he wants to go to a contender for a decent salary.

Make it happen Loomis!
